Post by nothintolose »

Have one night that we need lodging on STJ and have narrowed it down to St. John Inn and Inn at Tamarind Court...any opinions one way or the other?

I really like the people at the Tamarind and the breakfast is spot on :-)

The evening fare is very good also.

I'm getting the impression that this is some kind of secret..

Google Tamarind Inn Trip Advisor and you will find out the truth about this place. Pay the extra $30 @ St. John Inn and get a room that is 5 times as nice and courteous staff. The Tamarind is a step above sleeping on the street and the owner/operator is quite rude. Only stay there if you are trying to get the absolute rock-bottom price on a room. I have never been disappointed with the St. John Inn and have stayed in 2 diff't suites there. Tamarind always disappoints me- I stay there to save $ but always leave with a bitter taste. The one suite @ St. John Inn right behind their main office (can't recall the name) is incredibly spacious.

We stayed at St. John Inn and it was just fine to crash for one night. There are new owners now. Check out the story here:

We've stayed at Tamarind Court four or five times. All but the last worked out well for us; our room was next to the bakery and the dumpster got emptied at about 0630 and things stayed loud. Go for a room facing the courtyard. St. John Inn has some of its own noise issues, but it's gotten better since the Enighed Pond construction has completed.

I have checked out TripAdvisor as well as seen on-St.John's story about St. John Inn being bought...just was hoping to get some input from anyone staying at either place recently.

We have eaten at Tamarind and enjoyed the food but were more interested in the accomodations at both places as well as input on the locations.

Thanks for all of the info so far!

When my husband and I got married in Tortola another couple that came went to St. John for a few days before coming over to Tortola - they stayed at Tamarind and were very pleasantly surprised and pleased with the accomodations.
