I collect Tinkerbell. I prefer low numbered Ron Lee statues but I have been know to buy a pair a Tink flip flops at the dollar store. I do not have my house covered in plastic Disney crap, but I do have some beautiful pieces that I love.
In the summer before my freshman year in college I worked backstage for a local summer theater group and the production was Peter Pan. We wired the stage with thousands and thousands fo fiber optic fibers (I guess that is what you call them) and used a laser light to light up the fibers and make it appear that Tinkerbell was flying. It was very cool and the artistic director bought me a Tinkerbell as a show closing gift. That is what started it all.
I also buy purses and bags....all the time.

Pottery is my thing. I come from a long line of potters, somewhat famous in the world of pottery. I love "finding" old pieces that my grandfather made, as well as pieces that my mom or uncles made. It's crazy the places they turn up!
My mom has a vase collection that I covet - she's promised that it's mine when she's gone.

I'm psychotic about keeping paper shopping bags. I'm sure I get this from my grandma who was frugal to a fault. When I need to use one to give away clothing or send something to school, I always go through this psycho thought process: "Well, the Anthropologie bag is too good to use... so is the Coach bag... maybe I'll use the Old Navy bag..." So I have bags of bags. My husband laughs and, I think, secretly takes them and recycles them when I'm not looking.
I've gotten better about using my reusable 'green' bags when I shop, but it's amazing how even a non-shopper like me can end up with lots of bags.

I've often wondered how people get to collecting such specific items. Some people have an anecdotal story of how they began and some have no rational explanation whatsoever. Many people I've asked have said they just "knew it" when they first saw it and have collected that item ever since.[/quote]
In my case it was because I had a beautiful copy of the book when I was a child and it got lost in one of our moves. It took me years to find another exact copy. Also, for my 21st birthday, John gave me an absolutely gorgeous antique set of the books, which got me interested in looking for additional beautiful copies as well as the "holy grail" lost edition.

It's like looking in your soup and finding a whole different alphabet.
OK~
I'll admit I have a large collection of 1950's hand wrought aluminum. It started when my Mom wanted to put a beautiful bread tray I remembered from my childhood in a garage sale.
I collected for at least 10 years, and our prior home had a great room and hearth for display. When we moved I stopped collecting, but now my daughter-in-law caught the bug and she has a much larger collection than mine

I have a controlled passion for small Buddhas and religious kitsch--thus it only consumes one shelf, in my guest room. The shelf also contains stones I've found in my travels, that are special to me. Not everything is kitschy, although I might love that Mexican Virgin Mary matchbook box best. The handmade prayer tower is lovely and has a hollow interior where you can insert a piece of paper with a prayer written on it.

Having the majority of your stuff in storage for more than two years curbs a lot of your collecting, but if you wanted to take a tour of my storage locker, I could show you:
HUNDREDS of Longaberger baskets and pottery. (I stopped giving them my money when they starting making products in China -- I bought them because they were a "hometown" product -- but I still get them as gifts.)
Fiesta dishes - I have all kinds of Fiesta, both vintage and the new stuff (more vintage than new). I knew I had a problem when I was bidding on a sugar dish on ebay in the middle of the night once.
Angel christmas tree ornaments. The first ornament I ever got was one my mom had engraved with my name on it the year I was born. In 32 years, I have accumulated enough angels to make a very full 7 1/2 foot tree look presentable.
Shot glasses. This is the only collection I really keep up with these days. Everywhere I go I buy a shot glass as a souvenir.

You both speak the truth. But I admit, I'm addicted to both college and NFL. Thankfully, bayer doesn't mind the hours and hours I spend in front of the TV. He seems to kind of enjoy it. I could go on, but words fail me. So, I'll just quote one of my favorite pundits, "Football is life and I know life."Sun4MySoul wrote:Pete (Mr. Marcia) Posted: Thu Jan 15, 2009 11:18 pm Post subject:

FOOTBALL...I love football! Hard to believe the season will be over soon. Sigh.
Football is the essence of life. It's not a "hobby," it is essential to our existence. I would put it in the category of eating and breathing...without it, we surely would die.
Pete- Thanks for confirming what I always knew to be true, but no one else in my life will believe. Though for me, its college football, so the season is already over. Sadly. The NFL Playoffs are a consolation though!
When the end of the world comes, I want to be in Kentucky, because everything there happens 20 years after it happens anywhere else. – Mark Twain

Bad Habits or obsessions?
Bob (Bob Blake) has an obsession with collecting books from the “Bobby Blake” series, which is young boys series composed of 12 books where written about 80 years ago. Collecting is a kind word for it since it is more like trying to corner the market with about 100 books for only a 12 book series.
Here is our budding obsessions (does this count?):
