Flight help!!

Post by psufan »

I had a non-stop Continental flight out of Newark scheduled for 5/22. I just received an email notifying us that we were moved to a flight that leaves 5/23! Obviously this is unacceptable. I know there had been previous posts about options when this happens. Thought I would ask the forum and get reliable information before I called Continental.

Continental did sort of the same thing to us, so I phoned and they were SOOO nice and re-arranged everything for me, and I even got an extra day out of it, at no charge! Since it's not your fault, they shouldn't charge you anything, either. Good luck!

Hi PSUfan....we just booked our tix for May 9 to May 16 via philly on USAirways and they were $568. We tried to leave out of Allentown, but it was over $700 pp. Did Continental offer any reason why the flight changed days? I know the times can change alot, but that really sucks about the days. We flew Continental to Salt Lake City in August and they changed our flight. Instead of a 90 min. layover in Houston it was bumped up to a 6.5 hour layover. I called them and told them I wanted to change flights because we had a 10 month old and the layover was too long, but they wouldn't budge. We got charged $150 per person plus the difference in price.

Of course USAirways just did the same thing to me in December and I paid the change fee again. I would call and talk toa supervisor and tell them the hardship this creates as I am assuming you already have a place reserved.

By the way, I live out here in the Metropolis of Macungie.....getting ready to freeze by the end of the week!

It's really weird that they charged you. They said that since the change was involuntary on my part - Continental did the changing - that it was no charge to put it back the way it was. The reason I got an extra day out of it was because they canceled the flight I originally had and moved us to a later one, but the original times were available the next day. They changed it with a "smile" and no extra fees.

No reason for the change but I suspected this might happen. We booked in July for $478 pp. The prices jumped to more than $900 but recently had dropped down to about $700. Seats weren't selling so I wondered when they were going to pull the plug. There is a 1-stop flight leaving that same day that has seats available. I think I am going to plead my case for that one.

Stay warm PSUwether! I am originally from Alburtis so I know the area. Should have joined the NE Forum gathering at KP. Lots of fun.

Delta did that to us last November. They eliminated their Thursday flights and moved us to a Friday flight. I called and yelled and they basically told me I could be on any other flight they had room on as long as it existed. Since they had none on Thursday I was out of luck, but I found a flight on Wednesday and just flew out a day early. We spent the first night on STT and it worked out great.

Well, I called Continental and got switched to the 1 stop flight that leaves on 5/22 (at 7:05AM!). I was really looking forward to having a direct flight but we will live. We do have a direct flight back though for what it's worth and in the end we are getting to STT earlier than originally planned. Of course, that is if the stars are all aligned and the flights are running on time. The agent at Continental was very nice and made the switch with no questions asked.

PSUWethr - too bad we will miss you on the island. Glad you were able to score a direct flight out of Philly for a reasonable price.

Yes, maybe next time. If not, maybe I will see you as I turn off Spring Creek Road!

P.S. Still in mourning over the loss to USC. The game was fixed!

Funny story as we have now bumped into the same situation. Leaving on the 15th of May from Newark and they now say the 16th. NOT! Coming home didn't change (maybe they'll cancel and we'll be stuck down there)Did the same route last year and didn't have a problem. Looks like Continental changing things up on us. Not worried, I'll be there on the 15th no matter what.

It looks as though they are cancelling the weekday non-stop flights but not the weekend ones. We are returning on 5/31 on a non-stop and so far that is still okay. BostonMike, When do you return? We will be at the Beach Bar on 5/24.

PSUWethr - Yes, the game was disappointing but I believe the better team won. See you at Spring Creek Rd.

The 24th is the day we leave St. John. Seriously I don't want to think about that day until 8 AM May 24th
