villa for mom and hs graduate? st j only

Post by carolinagirl »

My daughter is graduating from hs and I am graduating from grad school. We want to rent a tiny villa in St J for a week in the summer.

This will be our 5th trip to StJ, but our first trip as poor folk. Ha. I am a single mom now and times have definitely changed.

I will get a jeep. I am not afraid to drive and know my way around, but not sure I want to be incredibly far from NShore. I do NOT want an apt, condo, etc... I believe I want a tiny free standing something. I also believe that I don't want to be in town.

We will eat in mostly, so a nice kitchen w grill would be a plus. I am looking for something less than 2k. Preferrably WAY less. Since it will summer, I believe we will need a/c, correct? In a perfect world I would love a pool, but know that might be out of the price range. I've been looking for days, but I always depended on this site for my previous journeys so thought I would try again.

Much thanks,
Julee

I have not seen this villa but I have heard good things about it :) It does not have a view (at least that is wahat I have heard) but a pool and a/c and is only $1850 for 2 people in off season :)

This one also gets great reviews but is in Coral Bay if that is a problem ? and I don't think it has a/c but check

Another...........

And another........this one had a fabulous review in the "villa review" section in the tab above and is only about $1525 in off season - but the road is a bit bumpy but that's the trade off for being so high above Coral Bay with fantastic views and I think they were in the process of paving it (or at least some of it :) )

You may have to share a bedroom/bed so I didn't know if that might be a problem or not

Happy hunting and hope this get's you off to a good start :)

Hi Carolina Girl,

A few that came to mind are:
Casa Constant -

http://www.vrbo.com/198517--$1575

http://www.vrbo.com/200733-$800

http://www.vrbo.com/86440- $1100

Moonsong- $1450,We stayed in the villa next to this last May with 2 other couples, it is a nice area, about a min drive from Cruz Bay, while it has no pool there is a hot tub that you could cool off in. It is thru Cloud Nine, they also have Palmelo, we stayed here is Nov, it is also about 5 min to town. I did a review, but I dont feel the review did it justice( not sure how they put the ratings on them). While not fancy, it was very clean & comfortable & has a hot tub as well which you could use to cool off in. A great price @- $980. We would definatley rent it again for just two of us.

Happy Hunting

Congratulations to you both. Check out Jasmine, about 1700. I wrote a review in August '07. Its older but well maintained, close to Cruz Bay, nice views, more than adequate kitchen, grill on a wrap around deck. The pool is on a separate level and has garden views but its very nice, a good mix of sun and shade which will work well for summer. Its fully A/c'd but also has lots of sliders and windows and great breezes. I stayed with a group of women friends and we felt very secure as we could lock up the whole house at night and when we went out.

IF you want quiet, Coral Bay is the best, just as close to the North Shore beaches as Cruz Bay, it's own grocery markets and great restaurants without all the "hustle and bustle" (relative of course) as Cruz Bay

There are two places in Coral Bay that are quite reasonable for 2 of you.

Starlit Escape scales their rates so for 2 it would be only $1400 for the week for a private villa with a pool and you could each have your own bedroom. www.starlitescape.com

The New Moon Cottage is a one bedroom with A/C, but it has a pull out couch. That is only $1000 in the off season.

There's a very positive review of Starlite in the 2008 section. Chicagoans of this board stayed there in January. Maybe she can weigh in on the A/C issue. All my trips to STJ have been in August. I was grateful to have A/C in the bedrooms at night.

Julee,
Take a look at notreciel.com. Notre Ciel is a wonderful, comfortable villa on Mamey Peak with a delightful pool and hot tub. The views are never ending, and we loved the location. It's an easy drive right down to Francis and Maho.

We stayed there for two weeks in August a couple of years ago. It was never hot because of the constant breeze and ceiling fans. We didn't miss AC.

We,too, love to cook and found the kitchen well-equipped. There is a grill.

Notreciel.com lists it off season as $1820. It lists higher on bookitvi.

Happy hunting and congratulations!
Shelley

Try privatehomesvi.com
They have reasonable priced houses for the summer.
Some have pools and AC.

They are great people to rent from.

So many choices that could fit your needs.
Look at Monkey No Climb VRBO#219688.
House has A/C in bedrooms and quite a view.
Very high over Coral Bay so temps may not be too bad in summer. Its $1,750 for two in the off-season. You will find something nice.
