My Noob Questions, Round One

Post by ifloat »

I was so thrilled to get a pair of Tevas at a good price that I want to wear them around the house and get used to them. But it's cold and drafty down there at floor level. So today I decided to wear them with my stylin' smartwool socks. The ones Mr. ifloat calls the "wicked witch" socks.

I am so so proud of the color coordination. Normally I wouldn't show anyone the depths of my tackiness and excitement for the trip, but I feel like I can trust you!

Excitement for this trip is at such a high level that I actually purchased a pair of sunglasses for more than $10.

So here come the questions. When you get on the ferry from St. Thomas, do they at any point take your luggage away from you? Can you keep it if you want to? Besides suitcases, how about backpacks, computer cases, purses...

And how about water floaties for bobbing around in the ocean. Bring from home or buy in St. John?

Thanks

So funny about the Tevas! I can definitely feel your excitement and you'll have a blast.

With the luggage on the ferry, you can keep it with you, but for the larger bags they mostly take those (you buy a ticket for the luggage when you buy your ferry ticket)and then they stack all luggage at the dock when you arrive on St. John. We always keep all our carryons with us and let them toss the big bags in with everyone elses!

As for floats...I buy the 1.99 cheap blow up rafts from Target/Walmart and since they are very flat in the package, bring those from home. They work great and we usually give it to someone at the beach on our last day. Sometimes people are so excited to get them. We do tend to purchase a noodle or two from Chelsea Drug in the Starfish Complex once we are down there if we have a big group.

Enjoy your trip!

ifloat,
I left two float/air mattresses in the laundry room at Bo Atabey, you should ask if they are still there ( i had intended to leave them for other guests)

I have taken floats from home when they are on clearance (since I usually go in the fall) and then leave them for the next folks at the villa.

However, every single trip, I can be found buying a pool noodle at Pine Peace for $4. It's the best $4 I spend...

I'm no help with floats, but when it comes to luggage, we usually just let the ferry guys toss it onboard...although my friend carried her own backpack.

Your shoes (and particularly your socks!) are SO cute! Great score on the shoes! Wish I could find a deal like that!

One of the villas we stayed in had plenty of noodles and rafts. You might want to check with your villa company before you plan on packing them. Especially with the extra charges for luggage over 50 pounds (if you fall into the category of taking lots of stuff, like we do

Tevas with socks? That's my winter uniform when we travel to STJ along with my pants with zip-off legs. I'm not nearly as fashion forward as you are, I use solid colored socks.

Chelsea Drugstore (Marketplace, above Starfish Market) has a good selection of floaties and beach toys as well as sunscreen. We usually find noodles at our villa when we arrive.

Well I'm sitting here smirking because I have an overactive imagination. I had to use google images to learn what a pool noodle was.

Are you saying that Rick's pool noodle is really a nub? And he leaves it at his villa?

At any rate, once again I thank you all for the worthy information.

If I'm going to use a noodle I guess I would want a brand new clean noodle. You never know where those things have been.

PS I used to be a newb but now I'm a noob. Pretty soon I will just be new.

OK, yeah. I was never afraid of pool noodles before now. I will be thinking twice about those villa floats now.

Did I tell you all that Tesseract has THE BEST pool floats ever? They were awesome. Kind of foamy with a pillow and so comfy to relax on. And, because they don't have one of those infinity pools, I didn't feel like I was going to take a header over the edge!

I just want you to know CG that I re-enacted the noodle graphic as well, many times, always thinking of that image and laughing to myself

And Ifloat, please don't encourage that RickG-he's a bad seed if there ever was one!

My noodle is bigger than a nub, it's just wrapped around Jorge.

Lulu, for $4 at Pine Peace a fresh noodle is cheaper than a prophylactic cleaning. But, what's cleaner, a noodle in a chlorinated pool water or a noodle from Pine Peace? ifloat, maybe a pair of noodle socks are in order?

mrsB, thanks for keeping an eye on me. Everyone once in a while I need a good Eastern European smack to stay in line.

Cheers, RickG
