Damn.... that's a tough one.

The only thing surefire that really works for me is having another trip (to anywhere is fine, but especially to STJ) planned after or something to look forward to.

But I will say that writing a trip report, sharing with other folks on the board, organizing photos from the trip and general participaion on the board are generally cheaper than therapy.

I also go back to my planning docs (packing lists, itinerary etc) and refine those while my memory is still fresh and I steamline that. So when I am ready to return I have that ready to go.

I also occaisonally go through all my STJ stuff (Snorkel gear etc.) and make sure everything is cleaned properly and in good shape before putting it into a large plastic container for easy storage. We call it the "Happy Box" casue whenever we pull that puppy out to get ready for another trip to STJ we are REALLY HAPPY!!

I pay special attention to anything with a metal zipper. I lerned the hard way one time that if you take to the island and don't work the zipper it can lock up. A little WD40 or some other lubricant will help avoid this. Likewise any dive knives or anythingmetal may need to be treated. Plastic or rubber (eg fins, snorkel mask etc) also need to be cleaned and stored properly.

Mostly knowing that it happens to all of us helps too!!

Hope this helps!!

The only cure I know of is to plan the next trip. It is so painful not having a ticker...

I hate it...we didn't go in 2008 but have a trip planned for June. It really is horrible how bad I feel when I get home...I've never felt like that coming home from ANY other place...I don't even know what to tell you...except I know exactly how you feel... :(

The day after Thanksgiving is, in my opinion, the biggest shopping day of the year.

I stole a couple of MrB's shirts on our last trip and put them in ziplock bags. When I get blue about missing St. John I put them on and drink a Presidente. I smell like John, the saint - even better than better than Bay Rum.

Cheers, RickG
