Crucian Christmas Festival, St. Croix

The U.S. Virgin Islands' annual Crucian Christmas Festival continues in January with an exciting roster of events. This year's theme of "Showcasing Cultural Ties that Bind," is woven into every event, including Caribbean Night on January 1, which features the King and Queen of the Band competition; The Children's Parade on January 2 and The Adult's Parade on January 3. "Art Thursdays," Christiansted, St. Croix

At 5 p.m. on January 8, visitors are invited to join the fun when Christiansted businesses, including art galleries, retail shops and restaurants, stay open late for a series of gallery walks. Galleries include: Crucian Gold, Danica Art Gallery, Designworks, D&D Studio, The Goldworker, ib designs, Maria Henle Studio, Maufe Gallery, Watch Your Step Art Studio and Yellow House Gallery. Candlelight Concert Series, Whim Plantation, St. Croix

On Friday, January 9 and Saturday, January 10, at 7:30 p.m., St. Croix Landmarks Society's "Candlelight Concert Series" will feature Jennifer Nitchman on Flute and Martin Kennedy on Piano. The Whim Plantation's series includes renowned classical music performances under a candlelit chandelier in the Whim Plantation Museum Greathouse. Grow and Learn, St. Croix

Part of the St. George Village Botanical Gardens' series of hands-on workshops, this month's event will take place on Wednesday, January 14 in the Pavilion at the Bodine Visitors' Center from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Past workshops have included learning how to make edible garnishes out of fruits and vegetables and making tequila from agave. Sunset Jazz, St. Croix

Sunset Jazz is a Frederiksted Economic Development Association (FEDA) event featuring an impressive roster of local and international jazz musicians on the third Friday of each month. This month's event will take place on Friday, January 16 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on the beach right next to the fort in Frederiksted (across from the ball park). Admission is free and families are welcome. Food and drinks will be on sale and concert-goers are urged to bring their own folding chairs or blankets to spread on the grass. Les Nubians, Reichhold Center for the Arts, St. Thomas

Virgin Islands Association's Pre-Inaugural Ball, Hilton Springfield Hotel, Virginia

On January 18, from 6 p.m. to 1 a.m., Virgin Islanders will celebrate the pending inauguration of the 44th President of the United States, Barack Obama. Congresswoman Donna M. Christensen and Governor of the Virgin Islands, John P. DeJongh, Jr., will speak at the pre-inaugural ball, and Image Band and DJ Jamarich will provide entertainment. Tickets are $75 per person through January 15, 2009, and $150 after this date, depending on space availability. Special price considerations may be offered to college students, ages 21 and older. Proceeds from this event will go to its operational fund and to scholarship opportunities for commendable college students. As part of the Arts Alive concert series, the Tillett Gardens will feature Americana/Rock musician, Joe Ely on January 21. The event will take place in the Tutu area across from the Four Winds Plaza. U.S. Virgin Islands Unveils New Logo

The U.S. Virgin Islands has introduced the next generation of branding for the Territory with the unveiling of a new logo. The launch of "The Mocko Jumbie" is the first step in a rollout of the destination's new branding and marketing materials to debut in 2009, designed to highlight the "unscripted Caribbean experience" offered in the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Entry Fees Reduced for International Rolex Regatta, St. Thomas

The St. Thomas Yacht Club, hosts of the 2009 International Rolex Regatta, is lowering entry fees by 25 percent and offering IRC boats free dockage at two island marinas. The 25 percent cut equates to a $100 discount for boats sailing IRC, CSA and One-Design, and $50 off for beach cats. Organizers will also stand by to provide logistical assistance for owners and captains attending the regatta.
