Camera Question
Since I just purchased a new camera (Canon Powershot SX10), my budget does not allow for the underwater camera I also wanted. Does anyone know if there is anything out there better than the disposable cameras for underwater that run around $100? I was originally looking at the Olympus that runs more like $300. I don't see underwater housing for my new Canon.
Thanks.
Thanks.

Canon makes a housing for your new camera:

This is just off a google search, you might want to check around for the best price.
It is defintely worth it to get the canon housing if you can afford it. However, I just noticed how expensive it is!!

It's like looking in your soup and finding a whole different alphabet.

Cool find, although this case is not made by Canon, it is actually made by ikelite. It looks very well made (good for 200 ft down!!!), but expensive. At $840 one might be better off buying a less expensive PowerShot camera with its respective underwater case.liamsaunt wrote:Canon makes a housing for your new camera:

I'm kind of in the same boat as you. I was looking at the underwater Olympus camera (1050SW), but I've read that the image quality is awful. Since I the majority of my pictures would end up being above water anyway, I've changed my plans to getting a good P&S camera (Canon SD 880 IS) and an underwater housing for it. I figure I could probably re-sell the housing, or just return it when we get back (keep all the packaging and receipts).
When I first joined this forum, I had posted a question/suggestion regarding someone on STJ renting underwater cameras or housings. There seemed to be a lot of interest in this sort of service. I don't think there's been any action, but I still think it'd be a great idea.

17th - I just got the SD880 IS and I LOVE IT!! I'm considering either selling my SD400 & underwater case to try and get enough money to buy the uw case for the 880, but on the other hand, I might just keep the old one for underwater only. The problem is that now I'm spoiled by 10 megapixels and the old camera is ony 5 mp! LOL!

Here's an inexpensive case to try out... $39...I'm thinking, what the heck? I may just buy one and take a cheap 35mm autofocus camera down with me. (I bought one for $5 off craigslist)
I still do a lot of photography with film. I have been loving the digital craze because I remember spending thousands of dollars on lenses in college and now am picking them up off the internet for chump change. I'll be sure to take my SLR with me when we go and some 25 speed pro film and post some knockout pics when we get back.
Here's a pic of my lovely bride and me in Hawaii last May:
