Tracy, I am so sorry for your loss. We've only had Butkus for four months but he's stolen our hearts (and our shoes, and our mittens and our socks). As much as he's a huge burden, he's one of the most precious things ever to come into my life. I cannot imagine the grief you are experiencing. I suppose you have to own a pet to really understand the pain. I certainly would not have before Butkus decided to adopt us.

Verjoy, my heart goes out to you, too. With my mother not doing well, I can appreciate the pain you must be feeling. I've been bracing myself for it for a long, long time.

No words that I type here will heal your loss, but do know that I absolutely know how you must be feeling. I still grieve for my beloved boy; Binx, my best feline buddy who left me almost 1 year ago and I still at times feel a huge sense of loss and sadness.

Your pup will be in your heart and soul forever! Cherish those memories and all the love you shared.

I work at a special ed school that lets you bring your dog to work if it is a cocker spaniel We have lost 2 recently to old age. It was rough on the owners & kids. Solution? We have 2 puppies at the school...very cute. Maybe that would help?

Sorry for your loss. We've had, and lost, a number of pets over the years. It's kind of a stacked deck whenever we've gotten a new pup or kitten, because we know that we're going to outlive them. But that's not a thought I have when bringing the cute kitten or dear little puppy home. For many people one of their first experiences with death is the loss of a pet. I once read a touching quote about how our animals first teach us how to love, then teach us how to grieve. We've usually waited quite a while to get another pet after the death of one that we've lived with and loved for years.

We have a shelf that holds the ashes and photos of our dear friends. We keep thinking that we should do something with the ashes, but we haven't figured out what yet, so they stay until we do.

Each loss is different. For some it involved us making that terrible decision that "it's time".One just went to sleep and never woke up. Two died traumatically. One terribly sad one was a young dog that got lost and we never knew what happened to her. That loss still isn't fully resolved.

I expect that they're all hanging out at Rainbow Bridge and that when "it's time", it'll be a very sweet reunion. And I'll tell that little lost dog how terribly sorry I am that I didn't keep her closer.

I don't know if Rainbow Bridge is real, but I choose to believe that it is. Seems like it should be.

I just saw your post and wanted to offer my sympathy. It's so hard to lose them! What an adorable picture. We had to put my lab from my teen years to sleep about two months ago and it's still hard when I realize she won't be with us on Christmas! She loved opening presents!

OOOOONOOO, I am so sorry for your loss. I can tell you that in this house the dog (or dogs) are family and enjoy all the resources (including the bank account) that we have. I like dogs over kids because they never urgue with me ...much! Just remember the good times and that we are all mortal.

So very sorry for your loss. It's a beautiful Christmas picture-I'm sure by the looks of it you have many more wonderful ones of him to remember him by. Our pets visit us for brief spans of time but always leave pawprints on our hearts and minds. Time will help heal.
