Made the commitment...booked villa and air..need car help!

Post by KTinTX »

Well,
We made the decision and we've booked Bongo Bongo for June 24-July 1. I mailed the deposit today. Yesterday, as I already posted, I booked the airfare when I saw AA drop their fare by over $150 pp. I've added a ticker...now for the question part:

CAR/JEEP Rental: Through reading and a couple of PMs I've concluded that the majority of folks use either St. John Car Rental, Courtesy Car rental, or Conrad Sutton. I believe all three offer in-town parking in their lots. This is probably like asking someone what their favorite beer is, but can anyone offer some advice or pros/cons for these places?

Thanks!
KT

Looks like our trips will overlap a bit.

I am faithful Conrad Sutton renter but many others like St. John Car rental. I don't think you can go wrong with either!

You're right, it's all about preference.

I've been renting from STJ car rental for a decade. They're good people, good service, similar prices.

I like St. John Car Rental. I have used them and Paris, which has reasonable rates but an unreasonable sand policy and no in-town parking.

(I'm now moving my errant comment about Pond Bay from this thread, so you'll all stop scratching your heads. I wondered where it had gone anyhow!)

Good villa choice! We loved Bongo Bongo when we stayed there in 2007.

We always use St. John car rental. We've never had a problem and love having the use of their lot right near the Beach Bar.

We had a great experience with St. John Car Rental. We used Cool Breeze this year and will NEVER use them again. PM me if you want specific details as to why.

Congratulations on the trip. We'll be there until the 3rd. We're fans of St John Car Rental. We didn't arrive until long after they closed on our most recent trip. No worries, they let our villa company get the car and we went to sign for it next morning.

To each their own, but I think that the good, the bad and the ugly should be posted on the board. This is a travel forum to share experiences. I have used STJ Car Rental, Paris, Conrad Sutton and Cool Breeze. I've gotten the best cars from Conrad Sutton and STJ Car Rental. Paris was okay. Gladys at Sutton's has a bad day sometimes. But they have parking. Most folks on this board like them. Me, I just want a car that works. I rarely come back into town,[Cruz Bay], once I'm on island , so parking isn't a factor for me. Cool Breeze came through with a car on short notice once. High mileage, one bald tire, lousy brakes, a/c,defroster didn't work. But they were the only one that had anything. Key went in the ignition, it started, it got me thru for 2 weeks, including a couple of Lameshur trips. You'll do fine with most of them. Have fun!

We like St. John Car Rental and are renting from them again next year.

Regarding their lot, sometimes it's full and we have to park at Slimman's, which we personally prefer to do. We have seen vehicles parked blocking one of, or worse... BOTH entrances/exits of St. John Car Rental's lot in the evenings, and that unnerved us a little. You are not supposed to park like that, of course, but evidently some folks do  :x . We don't want our jeep to be stuck there. I'm sure that "rarely" happens, but now that we've seen it, we feel more comfortable with Slimman's and they are very nice folks!

I love parking at Slimman's. So easy, and such nice folks. His girlfriend is a sweetheart! Now that I know how easy it is to park there, I won't fret about finding rental places with in-town parking. St. John Car Rental is nice, but we have had trouble with getting a vehicle from them after-hours and sometimes their lot is full or they tell you not to park there for whatever reason. I just don't even plan on the parking scenario when I find a place to rent.

I don't know if anyone's mentioned Courtesy, but their prices are really reasonable and they are good to work with. Some of the girls on our trip last year rented from them.

I for one LOVE Greg and Courtesy. We use them every year and have recommended them to others who now use them as well; some after having bad experiences with the others.

I like the location of their lot, and it's easy to get in and out of.

We have rented from Conrad Sutton (no problems) and other members of our party have rented from Cool Breeze, Denzil Cline, and L&L while we were renting from Courtesy. Needless to say, all of the others now rent from Courtesy too.

We don't have a problem with Conrad Sutton, just like the location of Courtesy better.
