Pond Bay -CZM -beach enhancement
Any of you who are interested in the Chocolate Hole area and Pond Bay Club should access the VI Daily News articles or STJ Source online and read about the new Coastal Zone Management decision allowing the Pond Bay Club to 'enhance' the beach. It is the direct opposite of the original permit which totally prohibited any beach changes.
I don't know how to post the links -sorry- maybe some one else can do that for the readers.
The homeowners association ,League of Women Voters and other groups all voiced opposition.

oh, i didn't mean ugh at you! i meant ugh at pond bay!!!
FYI, just copy the website for the article in your browser and then just paste it where you want and you will have the link.....
if it's a huge long link you can go to tinyurl.com and put it there and they will generate a smaller version for you to cut and paste (this is about as sophisticated as i get with this stuff!)

< leaving on the 22nd of march...but too lame to figure out the ticker thing again!>
Agree with Capt. Kirk. when i was down there a few months ago I was running along the build, then walked onto the beach figuring they would add and clean that up fairly easily. Then someone told me that they couldn't change it- I said there is no way they are building this without being able to fix that ugly beach!! It was a done deal. That said, if they don't add floors or anything obnoxious it may turn out to be nice.
This is sad but no surprise. All of the renderings showed a white sandy beach. It would probably have been a deal breaker not to be able to clean the beach up. John and I noticed in the architectural model on display at the marketing office that they also show limited sand and blue water in the area that is now a salt pond.
wwwt, you are correct on the turtle lighting.

It's like looking in your soup and finding a whole different alphabet.

Even though I currently do not live on STJ and only get to visit, I am not against Pond Bay.
One of the major supporters of Pond Bay happens to have lived in Chocolate Hole for quite a long time as well as owning a very successful real estate business on island.
Saying that I think he will do all in his power to not have Pon Bay become the monstrosity that Sirenuisance and Grande Bay have beocome

We have one of those near where we live also. Basically, during sea turtle nesting season, the places along the beach can't have lights on (or they have to be at some agreed upon distance and dampened level) that can be seen from the beach.Agent99 wrote:What is a turtle lighting plan?
The turtle hatchlings use the light of the moon reflecting off of the water as one of the tools to find their way to the sea.
Bright lights have been known to cause them to go the wrong way, which has them crossing highways here.
Little guys face long enough odds naturally without throwing more obstacles in their paths.
