help deciding: Jasmine, Palladio, Tamarind or Poi Pu

Post by kate_nyc »

I was hoping someone could help me out with some advice.

I was married in St. John in 2004, and then went back for my first anniversary in 2005 and I can't believe it's been three years! Since then, I've had a baby (now a toddler) and we're planning a trip back next May. We're also bringing along my sister and my husband's brother. So we need a villa that's relatively toddler-friendly and has at least three bedrooms (the bedrooms don't have to be "equal" though)

Our short list right now is Jasmine, Palladio's View, Tamarind and Poi Pu. Does anyone have any thoughts about those or how they compare? We stayed in Coral Bay both times in the past - last time we stayed in Periwinkle Cottage which we LOVED and I don't think the pictures do it justice at all, and the time before that in Little Plantation which we liked very much as well - but I sort of think it might be better to be closer to Cruz Bay since we have the baby and the siblings. Although I still prefer Coral Bay, so I can't decide on the best course of action!

In any event, any help would be much much appreciated. I'm not quite as much of a newbie as I look - I just haven't posted since my daughter was born in the summer of 2007, and now I can't remember my old username :? Thanks!

Kate

edited to add - I forgot about the villa reviews! So I looked at those and that helped. I'm still at a loss to decide, though.

If you're considering Tamarind I would ask what updates have been made to the property in the last 5 years. I believe that they're only represented by 1 management company now. I stayed there in 1993 when the kitchen had been updated. The photos I found on line are exactly the same ones that sold me on the house in 93 (including the bed linens). I don't think they've changed a thing since then. I also read a pretty bad review of it recently (within the last 12-18 months?). I loved it then but I wouldn't stay there now unless there's been some serious updating. I also believe it's for sale.

Poi Pu
My wife's high school best friend owns this one. They were on island the first couple of days during our trip over July 4th had a party at their place one night (after dinner at Skinny Legs). Then a 14 person dinner party at the place we rented (SeaCay). It’s a great place for the price. Her father-in-law build the villa in the mid 80’s the two son’s now own and visit all the time it.

Thanks, everyone. I think I'm going to rule out Tamarind, at least.
