Good Grief! What beautiful pics and homes!

Here's a tree from our simple abode from a couple of years back. It was a fun twist to the traditional.

Ok, so maybe that is the Pierre's lobby and the Palace's tree in Manhattan but mine will look just like that when I finally put them up. Honest!!

We're decorating this weekend and I'll post a few if they turn out. Meanwhile, I have a couple neat outdoor shots from last year that I'll dig up to post.

JT, that is awesome!

Agent99, even though it looked awfully formal, I believed you on the mantel, until I scrolled down to the tree! Ha!

Heh! I thought about posting the Rockefeller Center tree but that would really have given it away!

I'm so late this year. Hopefully it will stay warm enough to get the outdoor decorations up this weekend. I don't think I'll get these lights up on our garden gate this year though. Last year it took me about 4 hours to string this whole thing. I only have a picture of half but it did look very cool in the dark.

JT - Love the tree and your home reminds me very much of my childhood home. Awwww...now I am missing the wood heat of my childhood ... the smell, the warmth (not the allergic reaction) but everything else!

JT what a funny idea with your Santa Claus tree.
Made me smile.

And Agent 99, you really got my eyes wide opened, when I saw your pics, I was surprised and very impressed especially seeing your outdoor light show - in about 1 minute- then I saw the text :D .

Scandinavian/European Trees

Post by ms411 »

Last year I went to the VI governor's Christmas reception (it was open to the public, so anybody can go - even nobodys like me!)

I was very disappointed with his USA Stateside-looking tree. Shortly thereafter on tv (can't remember program) I saw a tree that had incorporated flags into the decorations.

So I googled flags christmas tree (or something like that), and was directed to a site, I thought, in one of the Scandinativan countries, that said flags were a popular tree decoration.

Is that true? I would LOVE to see the governor's tree with VI flags and other tropical decorations.

So, opinions please. What do you think of incorporating flags into your tree decorations? Is this a popular theme in other areas/countries?

Hopefully, with everybody's help, we can get a more culturally appropriate tree for the VI!

What incredible photos. Please keep them coming as they are giving me some great ideas. We are decorating all over this year as it will be the first time in 5 years we will have everyone "home" for the holidays.

Beautiful homes with many wonderful memories and decorations...Thank you!

hello, I miss some more pictures of your decorations :) - maggy, I was looking forward to see some Swedish decorations too :!:

ms411: you asked about flags on the tree. I can tell that in my childhood and youth we always had long rows of small Danish paper flags on the Christmas tree together with "fairy hair".
But fashion changes, and today I don’t think it’s common. Perhaps it’s something to do with the fire risk, many still have real candlelight on the tree.

I found it very difficult to get a good picture of our tree! It is really a lot prettier than in the picture.

So pretty. I love this thread. It's getting me in the spirit. We finally are going to get started today. I'm thinking I'll try to make something new for the fireplace. That could spell trouble. If you Boston folks know Jacobson's by the Flower Market it's chock full of posibilities. Hopefully I'll have something to share soon.

We have friends who lives on "Christmas Lane", and the homes on their street are very well decorated this time of year. Here is me next their Santa:
