Cptnkirk's DAY 3

Post by cptnkirk »

Ok same old stuff as always on our St John vacations, first up, make coffee, enjoy views, roosters, bacon and eggs, ya get the picture. Well in case ya don't heres a couple pics to help ya out.

Oh the biggest decision of the day what beach to go to? We really don't know were we want to go on any given day we just go with the flow. That's how we roll while on St John and it works well for us. So were outta the villa by nine and off down north shore road. We stop at Hawksnest to check the conditions and those darn north swells are still coming in. I tell everyone I need to get my snorklin on and Andy agrees that can mean only one thing when the swells are comin in and still be on the north shore MAHO BABY!

We stop by all the overlooks for princess and she thinks there pretty but she just wants to get to the beach. We stop at a little place along the road were we can peak at Peter Bay and point out around were KC has a villa, now that sparked her interest more. I joked and said maybe Pharrell was his neighbor. She thought our villa was nice until she saw those mansions. Ok enough stops dad I want to get to the beach. OLD PIC FROM PREVIOUS TRIP

Well as we arrive at Maho drive, you can see were the swells had washed the sand right over the road in one spot. We look over and it looks pretty calm today but it must have been kickin recently. We decide good enough and park way at the end by the little ruins building as you turn to go to Francis. Now Teresa likes Maho other than the chicken incident we had on a previous trip. So what do ya know as soon as we start for the beach I spot chickens. Well me being the duma$$ I am I have to point the out to her. She wasn't too happy about the poultry on the beach (she really hates chickens has some bad childhood memories) so we head far right away from the chickens. Find us a real nice spot on the far right end and we set up shop.

Andy and I head out to get some snorklin in and right away it's obvious the sediment is still there somewhat from previous days. Oh well at least were snorkeling. Gets a little clearer out by the point but also pretty rough so Andy heads back and I stay out for some time longer. Snorkeling would have been better if the sun would come out but it was a mostly overcast day.
Image
As I head back in Pelicans are diving for minnies so I take a bunch of pics. After that I head back and as I'm snorklin through the minnies a tarpon bust threw them right in front of me (excuse me while I clean out my shorts) my gawd warn me before ya do that Mr Tarpon.

Back on land and I settle in and chill with the gang. Well after the so so snorklin experience and the overcast skies I'm feeling a little bit cheated and I know we can do better and the day is young. Everyone else is cool with our set up but their game to give me a shot at some sun so I say we head south. So south we head but not without a stop at Skinnys for some Presedentes and photo ops and of course the pisser.

It's off down the road, as we get to Salt Pond it becomes obvious we are not the first to have the Idea to head south. Jeeps are lined up and down the road made that decision easy we didn't want that walk anyways. So on south we head for Little Lamshure. I warned everyone the road turned to dirt but I had no idea what was to come. As we hit the dirt road it stats to get rough then rougher Andy starts throwing phrases like I need a kidney belt and I'm bleeding from my anus and many more as we laugh our a$S off. We even came upon a mud bog as we head there, lucky our jeep was trail rated.. I was having a blast since I was driving, was kind of like those jeep commercials ya see on TV. We finally arrive and GAWD half the island is at Little Lamshure. We do luck out as someone is leaving and we get a great parking spot. Well I delivered we got our sunshine and even got a picnic table. Princess is not feeling well after our for wheel drive adventure so I know I have to hurry and take advantage of the gin clear water and calm seas as our time is going to be limited here. So off I go a snorklin, I'm gone for about two hours and when I get back everyone is ready to high tail it outta here. Snorkling was good by the way and I'm feeling satisfied.

Princess gets the front seat for the trip back. She still doesn't feel good and we got this drive back outta here and centerline to boot I feel for her cause getting car sick is no fun. Well Andy starts again with stuff like my nuts just chipped a tooth and many others I can't repeat we all are laughin but my princess is not doing well So I speed it up and who would of thunk It's a lot smoother going ten or fifteen over those pothole kinda just skim over them. Get back to the villa and clean up to go out for some grub. We decide on Woodys for some awesome burgers.

Woodys is packed with no tables so Andy says how about Rhumblines sounds good to everyone so Rhumblines it is. Everyone was happy with their food. Andy got the spicy tuna encrusted thing that I had last time we ate there. I got the spicy chicken special Teresa got some spicy noodle thing she loves, Dawn got some Poi Poi stuff, princess got something from the kids meal. I know there's a lot of fancy places many of you eat at on the island but this is as fancy as this bunch gets. I do love the atmosphere of the place and as a bonus they had a gal playing acoustic guitar and singing that night. I believe it was the girl that has been singing on St John like forever she was really good. I highly recommend this place if ya haven't tried it yet. Back to the villa a few drinks and off to bed by nine,..

I'm with you Capt.....Rhumblines is the perfect blend of great and creative food, excellent drinks and service and so casual that you feel relaxed and at home. That's not always easy for a restaurant to pull off but they do it beautifully while making it look easy. I love the swing at the bar, too!

Looking forward to more of your report.

Hey Cptn
You guys were sitting right on "our spot" at Maho 8) . I love your pelican shots, they are so fun to watch. We tried Rhumblines for the first time this trip and loved it. It will now be in our must go category. But, we love spicy food. I was in heaven with all of the little dipping sauces to try :) .
Going "home" again October 26th!

I remember her, the singer. One night she was playing when we ate at Rhumb Lines. It was a slow night for the restaurant. By the time she started playing, my husband and I were the only ones there (and one other guy sitting at the bar) and had already finished our meals. We stuck around and enjoyed her music for a while. It would have been easier for us to find the right moment to leave, if we hadn't been seated right in front of her :( .

Cptn, Maho looks beautiful even if it's cloudy. Looking forward to more of your reports!

The singer is T-Bird. I love her and Rhumblines. Thank you for the great trip report. Love the photos! This is much appreciated on a cold rainy day in Philly.
