We went out to the point last March when there was a huge north swell coming in. It was really amazing. It looked like Hawaii not St. Thomas.

Here's a link to our blog with a video.

This is called Picara Point -- at the end of the Peterborg peninsula - it truly is a beautiful and inspiring spot - but on days when there is no North Swell PLEASE do not be tempted to climb down and get in the water - it may look calm but is quite dangerous - more than a few people have been drowned there - it is sometimes referred to by locals as the 'Pools of Death" - there used to be a warning sign with a skull and crossbones that is gone now.
When the swell is up and the waves are loud and crashing it is a great place to enjoy the sunset.
It is private property and will likely be inaccessible at some time in the future so take the drive out while it is still available.

Schnell, are you related to the Schnells on St. John?
Let us live so that when we come to die even the undertaker will be sorry.

Nope, its just a nickname from highschool that stuck.

Exit 0....there is no way you would get me to hike down towards that water. It was pretty choppy the day we were there and I cannot even imagine how rough the place is when there is a bad north swell. I think I remember some signs, but we had been told by a local at the Marriott to not attempt to head down as many have died doing it. Thanks for mentioning it though :)

There's a couple nice looking villas out there...we were considering those before we decided on STJ for June 08. I wouldn't be surprised to find myself staying in Peterborg in the future...
