I am/was soooo mad! My family was in Punta Cana last week and on the flight to JFK the man in front of me refused to put his seat in the upright position during takeoff and landing. I asked him nicely THREE times and he ignored me. I was about ready to slam his seat but controlled myself. The flight attendants had to ask him over and over again and he would put it up and then back down. We were on an A300 airplane and the seats go way back. I am getting pissed writing this right now. Why do people have to be A$$ holes?
Also, he made his wife jump over him so she could go to the bathroom. AAAARGH!
Then to top things off our connecting flight to Boston was cancelled and we had to drive home!
The vacation was great though-- 37 days to STJ!

Personally, I think it's rude for anyone to put their seat back altogether. With the cramped quarters on most flights now, when you shove your seat into the lap of the person behind you, you are being really inconsiderate.

The seat back thing is a pet peeve of mine. I wish people would ask before they recline into my lap. Several times I have had my laptop on my tray table when the person in front of me unexpectedly put their seat back. Each time, the lid to my laptop almost snapped off.

I now resort to kneeing these people in the back until they get the message. (That's far more mature than just saying something, right?)

I have just stopped trying to use my laptop on the flight and just use it at the airport, because it never fails that when I have it on the tray table, the person in front of me will put their seat back and almost break it (not to mention you can't do any work if you can't see your computer because it's jammed into your belly).

I think they need to teach airplane etiquette classes. People are so rude on planes anymore!

Seriously, what is wrong with people?

Two trips ago, there was an incident involving a child in some sort of weird plastic contraption (like a carrier but not a carrier) and parents that were just insane.

It took the captain to get the message across across - listen to the attendants or get off the plane.

It was a direct flight to STT and passengers were yelling, literally yelling at the idiots to straighten up and act right, this is our vacation time you are messing with. I believe my dear husband might have been one of them.

I will get extra nice service from the stewardesses after I inform the idiots what part of there body I'm gong to shove in another opening if they don't listen to the nice lady.

I'd like to vent about people putting their carryon in the overhead space.

We had one small roll on, one duffle bag and one beach type bag. The duffle bag and beach bag can go under the seats, but the small roll on has to go in the overhead.

People seem to think that they can put their multiple carry ons WHEREVER they want!! Then, when the plane lands they're all over you to get to their bags.

Last time a guy 2 seats in front of me jumped up immediately, squeezed his way back 2 rows, took his bag down and hit me on the head. No sorry, nothing at all.

Some people are just rude in general.

I don't even want to get started on the snorers who start even before the plane takes off.

Its even worse when someone reclines all the way back into you on one of those short route/commuter planes.
I think there is a small gizmo you can buy that you can discretly insert into hinge of the seat in the front of you to prevent it from reclining. But maybe that could result in more conflict if found out!

On the line of rude airplane situations. My brother flew back from LA last weekend. They were waiting for one more passenger to board and finally a mother with two small children came running on the plane. Well, the only seats left were two individual seats. She had car seats for both children. The stewardess asked why she didn't board ahead of time and she rudely said they didn't want to. So, then she stated they she needed three seats all together. A mother and her two adult children offered to give up their seats and sit individually. Problem being, there were only two other seats on the whole plane and the mother of the adults didn't have a seat and was made to get off the plane and wait for the next flight!! I would have been furious if I'd tried to do a good deed and ended up without a flight. My brother said the other mother was nothing but demanding and rude the entire trip and didn't even thank the people who gave up their seats. Some people!!

i was on a flight to Auckland from LA and a huge guy in front of me put his seat all the way back--his head was literally in my lap.--it was the most impossible flight. People really do behave badly on airplanes!

Sorry guys. I'm in the minority here, but I don't see any problem with reclining, especially on night flights. I admit it: I do it.

It's nearly impossible to relax or sleep if you don't move the seat back a little. If I was flying for vacation and someone behind me tried to fuss at me for reclining my seat and messing up their laptop time, I'd tell them that until the airlines stop making reclining seats, tough cookies. If you have such a problem with reclining that "knee defenders" are required, I'd say avoid flying unless it's First Class.

And for the record, I don't consider myself to be a rude or inconsiderate person.
