Another tip for groups w/ multiple vehicles

Post by Gromit »

Gromit's Tip # 56,745 (not really):

For families or groups traveling together in multiple vehicles...

Bring walkie-talkies!!

We picked up a set at Costco a few years back and we find these to be invaluable to communicate between vehicles or short distances on island.

Since cell service can be spotty and costly for some without generous minute plans, we've found that have a set of 2-4 walkie talkies (depending on how many vehicles/couples) set to the same channel is great!

If you spot something ahead you can warn the driver behind or if someone is trekking back and forth between the Jeep and the beach you can spare them an extra trip.

You can usually find decent ones at Costco for around $50: http://www.costco.com/Browse/Product.as ... opnav=&s=1

But you can find cheaper ones that work well too.

They're also nice when you split up in town to go shopping in Cruz Bay or CA. Although I am always careful to keep the volume down so as not to disturb others.

We get them with rechargable batteries and just bring the cradle to recharge at night.

These were a great idea for us the first year on the island. The couple in the car behind us kept yelling "LEFT, LEFT" into them because my husband would always forget to drive on the left side of the road. My husband wasn't allowed to drive this year.

And apparently they cut down on the costs of insurance as well...
