Yeah.. the ticker says 5 all right!!

Post by Gromit »

Can I just say that I cannot believe it's almost time!!??!?!?

That little palm tree keeps getting closer to the end each day.

This trip will be a short one (only 7 days-- which let's face it -- means only 5 days of real vacay as 1 day on each end of the trip is a travel day).

We'll be traveling with my in-laws for our first-ever vacay with them (Hubby and I have been married for 10 1/2 years) and their first trip to the VI and STJ.

It was all I could do to convince them to get their own Jeep and hopefully they will be gald they did (I know I will!)

This trip we'll be celebrating two things:

1) Graduation from my fellowship at UVA; and

2) My 37th birthday

As far as the in-laws go, I've done my best "Hi, I'm Julie and I'll be your cruise director" prep stuff including some basic info and advice for them (which they will likely ignore) and a loose itinerary to have on hand in case we find ourselves staring at one another and asking, "SO, what would you like to do?"

The itinerary comes with the caveat that it doesn't have to be followed and all parties have been reminded that we don't have to be attached at the hip.

Looking forward to hanging out with old friends like Syndey, Keith and STJ Mike. And definitely looking forward to meeting new ones: VickiH; HUGO!!; and other forumites if they wish to come out of hiding

This is also our first time staying on the Coral Bay side of STJ. In the 12 years we've been heading down we've always stayed in and around the Choc Hole area -- or last December -- in Catherineburg.

There's too much construction going on around Choc Hole for my tastes these days and the last few trips we've found ourselves hanging out in Coral Bay more often.

I've done the first cut with the packing and will finsh up tomorrow night. That way I can forget about it and enjoy the graduation ceremony and events with my classmates in Charlottesville.

I have a few goals for this trip (in addition to the usual stops):

1) Meet Guy Benjamin in person and get a copy of his book (signed of course)

2) Hop the ferry over to Jost for the day -- for no good reason at all -- just hang out at Foxy's or Ivans

3) Get to know the in-laws a bit better and hopefully not want to kill them.

4) Hike to Ram Head and make a Coral Person at Drunk Bay

5) Get Sydney and Keith and Vicki and her crew drunk on Jello-shots on the boat!!

6) Ring Howies Bell at Skinny's

7) Visit Josephines garden

And last, but not least....

8) Spend some quality time with my husband who is -- hands down -- the most amazing person that I know, mainly because he puts up with me 24/7/365. Which, as Flip Flop will tell you, is no easy feat!

Thanks to everyone for keeping me going all these months with trip reports and allowing me to make connections with people who share the same love of this amazing place we call STJ.

It's a testament to the spirit of the island that so many people from so many walks of life can be drawn to something so strongly that they bond with one another the way that many of us do on this board.

I look forward to the sunny days ahead, looking up to the stars at night and some good times with great people.

5 days... soon come!

You nut!!!

I was just about to sign off my computer, and thought I'd check the forum one more time, and guess what I found......You!

I bought you a small Bday present last night on my way home. Just a little something from here! The other St. John.

Can't wait to see you and VickiH on the 10th.

Travel safe, and Happy Graduation!!

Hubby fancies himself a Jell-O shot chemist of sorts. For me it's just fun. For him-- it's a scientific challenge!

He's got this web site that tells you how to achieve certain flavors/tastes based upon the type of jello and alcohol used:

Classic Cocktail Combinations

Margarita Jell-O Shot
3 oz. package lime Jell-O
8 oz. (1 cup) boiling water
4 oz. tequila
4 oz. sweet and sour or Margarita mix
Substitute watermelon Jell-O for lime for a melon margarita.

Strawberry Daiquiri Jell-O Shot
3 oz. package wild strawberry Jell-O
8 oz. (1 cup) Boiling water
6 oz. white rum
1 oz. sweet and sour or Margarita mix

Fuzzy Navel Jell-O Shot
3 oz. package orange Jell-O
8 oz. (1 cup) boiling water
2 oz. vodka
6 oz. peach schnapps

Cherry Amaretto Jell-O Shot
3 oz. package cherry Jell-O
8 oz. (1 cup) boiling water
2 oz. cold water
6 oz. amaretto

Sex on the Beach Jell-O Shot
3 oz. package orange Jell-O
8 oz. (1 cup) boiling cranberry juice
3 oz. peach schnapps
5 oz. vodka

I even got my buddy who co-owns the local Outback to spot me some mini cups!!

Seems like you are "Fired up!" and "Ready to go!"

You're right, that's something better captured with video. ;)
