Your favorite fish

Post by Connie »

After the shark thread, I thought I'd start one on your favorite fish. I may not know their real names, but you'll know what I mean.

I love the needle nose fish that float on the top and are so curious of what you're doing.

In my snorkeling experience, the squid or cuttle fish really stand out in my memory.

They just hover there, in a group, and stare at you. Like they're trying to intimidate you or hynotize you... I don't know.

They're cute!

I have a soft spot for gray angels. I don't know why, but I just love them.

I also like eagle rays and the spotted drum.

And a lot of other fishes also

Striped Bass...mmmmm, yum. Oh, fish you see! Swimming right next to a 6' Tarpon at Francis. Snorkeling to shore at Brown Bay and floating into a school of Bonefish feeding in the grass.
When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro.

Redfish or speckled trout to eat unless you are talking about the big ones like Tuna and Salmon.

As far as when I am snorkeling, I LOVE the angelfish!

And if you count rays, spotted eagle rays.

I would like to get to see a triggerfish next time I am there. If I have seen one in the past, I didn't know what I was looking at

Has anybody ever seen a seahorse? I would find that really interesting!

As far as eating fish, I'll eat just about anything since I don't eat beef, but my favorite has to be salmon.

My favorite fishes to find while snorkeling are the spotted drum and the queen triggerfish. Also, anytime I find something I have not seen before I get really excited, and that fish becomes my temporary favorite.

Even though they are common, I really like finding the baby damselfish, because they are so pretty with their bright blue spots.

For eating, my favorites are haddock (or cod), tuna, flounder, and striped bass.

Another vote for the Spotted Drum and the Spotted Eagle Ray - love finding them in the waters of St. John. I have to say that my all time favorites around the world include sharks, not that I love FINDING them while snorkeling... well, depends on the species I guess.

Actually, I'm more like an "invertebrates" girl while snorkeling or eating  .

I have been lucky enough to see a seahorse. I feel like it had to be in the VI's but can't recall  exactly where. (That's been happening way too often I might add.) My favorite fish to eat is Sea Bass, followed by tuna. My favorite fish to see while snorkeling are those blue/purple small fish that hang out in a big group together. Though, honestly, snorkeling is not a good snorkel for me until I've seen my turtle. Ali~

Not a fish, but I love spotting an octopus. And I really enjoy the colorful parrotfish.
