Catching Up - Reef Madness sorta' live...

Post by augie »

I haven't been able to get online until just a little while ago, but here's a brief recap of the trip so far:

Friday - up way too early after to bed too late. Saw Sea-nile in the Atlanta airport during the 3+ hour layover. Met Diana2 and MrB/MrsB at the STT airport.

Combination of bad traffic, bad timing, bad luck, and bad driving got us on STJ from the car barge just as night fell. Got to drive Centerline to Coral Bay at night for the first time!

Met greeter at Coral Bay fire station, then drove straight up the hill to Reef Madness - first reaction - WOW! The great pictures don't do it anything close to justice - much more on that later.

Combination of tired, Leslie not feeling well, tired, and ...tired meant we blew off Halloween at Skinny's - sorry I missed Jimmy, who had left a message for us on RM's answering machine - next time buddy - first round is on me.

Saturday - Went to Waterlemon to snorkel, then checked out Francis, then drove into Cruz Bay, had lunch at Sun Dog Cafe, then went home to watch the Gators play. Cooked some Mahi on the grill, then fell asleep watching Texas and Texas Tech play.

Sunday - After breakfast at RM we drove to Salt Pond Bay, hiked to Ram Head, snorkled at Blue Cobblestone, then went back to the villa for lunch before we headed to the Beach Bar. Met a lot of the forumites there as you've no doubt read about - it was a great time.

Monday - went to hike the Brown Bay Trail to snorkel at Brown Bay, but I'm as bad at directions in the woods as I am on the road, so we ended up hiking to Waterlemon, so we snorkled there again. After the long hike back we discovered the jeep had a flat tire, so I got to change that and we went to Cruz Bay again. I had to give the Sawyer Dive Shop some BCD sizes for our group on Tuesday, all of the info was in my PM message box and I didn't have internet in the villa. So we stopped at Grotto Deli for lunch and internet, went to St. John Spice to shop andseek advice on where to get the tire fixed, dropped the tire off at E&C, drove to Caneel to talk to the folks at the dive shop, then finally drove "home". I was too pooped to think about cooking out, so we hit opening night at Shipwreck Landing (good decision!) for some good food, drinks, and dessert, and we got meet Pat on her way out of the place.

Tuesday - got up early drove to town to see if the tire was ready (it wasn't), went to Caneel, had a very good dive trip, then walked down to Honeymoon where we spent a few fun hours with the forum folks again. Left, dropped Leslie off at Starfish, went to E&C - the tire was ready, but Leslie had the cash and the cost to plug the tire didn't meet the minimum credit card amount. So I drove back to Starfish, found Leslie, paid for the food with the credit card, drove back to E&C, got the tire, then headed down Centerline back to Coral Bay. We neglected to bring lunch with us for the post dive beach party, so the burgers we grilled at Reef Madness seemed spectacular! Got a call from the "internet guy", we tweaked a few things, I'm back on line, and you're more or less caught up.

More soon come!
Come see us!

The trip sounds wonderful so far - even with the flat tire.
Thanks for taking the time to report in!
