How does this happen?
i cannot begin to tell you the number of times (when we were refinancing for a lower interest rate) that the two banks that we were dealing with tried to sell us a different product than what we wanted--CONSTANTLY trying to sell us an ARM or some damned balloon scheme--it was infuriating! all we wanted were rate quotes for a 15 and a 30 yr fixed mortgage--and they tried everything to sell us on something else.
< leaving on the 22nd of march...but too lame to figure out the ticker thing again!>
I'll be damned.
Please allow me to scream a little bit.
It would be the scream of a happy man. A man whose house is his again.
They're gone. They just left the house.
Thank God.
I was just wrapping up a conference call when they stuck their heads in my office, holding frozen waffles, said
"We're leaving. Thank you very much"
I said "Pay your bills"
Here's what I understand:
They got the house back. The bank apparently did act improperly (procedurally) and decided to reinstate the mortgage and let them back in the house.
Yea...I'm making that face too.
They're getting a hotel for a week because, K is taking this opportunity to rip all the carpeting out of the 1st floor (the house is empty after all) and have M put in laminate.
I don't know with what money either. Stop asking.
Then, next week, they'll move back into their house.
I honestly don't care what happens after that because they won't be here.
I get to leave for 4 days on the NC coast in the morning and I have a brand new kitchen.
Life may be about to get a little better.
Thanks for all the support here and for listening to me bitch and moan about this.

I think this saga is officially over.
They came by on Saturday to collect the last of their crap:
2 computers
A monitor I had been using (mine died)
more food
plants
M & I loaded the car (filled with draperies and other crap) while K sat here in our house and bitched about how unfair this all was.
PAY YOUR BILLS!
They have no gas at the house. As a result, they have no heat or hot water. Boo hoo. I'm so frickin sorry.
We loaded the rest of their crap into the car,
I think this is the net of the transaction.
Losses:
One pair of shoes. (The Mrs donated them to K when she was crying about not having any)
2 clothes baskets
My Arundel
Too much $$ in food
Too many free moments with my wife and daughter
Gains:
I think we gained a chicken in the freezer swap
Stains from dog pee on my basement carpet and from angry cat pee upstairs
A Poinsettia tree
Labor for new kitchen cabinets
Karma...A shitload of Karma. I have decided to trade the Karma in for a series of on-time return flights from PHL. I figure God owes me at least another 4 years' worth
Bottom line...I can not stand to be in the same room with K any more. Ever. I just can't handle it. She's tacky and I hate her.
As for M? He went to court and his record is being expunged. In 6 weeks, he can get a job. I doubt he will.
They have no flooring on the 1st floor of their house. Plywood rocks!
I am striving to find normal again. I think I lost it. If you find it for me, please PM me with it.
As always...it's my life. You just get to enjoy it.

My observation is that you faced this situation with great style and grace.
I am so happy that this is over. The other thing you might have gained will not be apparent for many years. Your daughter saw how the two of you faced adversity. She also has an idea of where that adversity came from and how to avoid it herself in the future. They learn so many things from just sitting in the background and observing.
Now, break out the coconut bra and grass skirt. It's time to celebrate!

I feel the need, one year later, to drag this thread back to the front because I know you will all love this postscript.
Well...I'd love to say that they've straightened themselves out, but am not sure if I can.
She's due at the end of January.
Yup
She's also not so sure she wants to be a mother
Yup
She refused to tell her parents until she could come up with a suitable detailed lie that finally culminated with "And, we're having a baby"
Yup
They also finally finished buying my old car. took them 5 months to give us $2000 for it
Yup
Then, 3 days later, she went out and bought herself a brand-new car.
Yup
Though...he apparently started a new job last week. He's inspecting equipment (X-Rays, MRI's etc at the Wake Med Hospitals) but was sending me Facebook messages at 9:30 this morning.
We figure that by mid to late March, we'll have another child because they will have grown tired of the one they're about to have.
That ought to be fun.
