Kilnworks Lizard mugs

Post by Taylor »

The Kilnworks on STT makes a series that includes a mug with a little lizard on it. Eight years ago they sold the mugs at Donald Schnell's studio on St. John. Does anyone know if they still sell these at Schnell's or if they can only be obtained at the Kilnworks on St. John?

Thanks.

Ruth used to carry Kilnworks at St. John Spice, I think. I seem to remember her saying the artist left the island??? I just tried the St. John Spice website, but the "pottery" link isn't working, so maybe she doesn't even have it any more. Would be worth it to PM her. Good luck! :D

I couldn't find them any where on St. John when I was there this year (including St. John Spice). I have broken 2 over the years and I need to replace them. I love drinking my morning coffee out of it - reminds me of St John :)

You can purchase them on their website:

I bought one of the 4 1/2" high "lanterns" last December at Schnell's. Love it!

Quick note: I just visited their web site, and they say they are not accepting internet orders at this time.

Ruth?

We haven't carried this line for a while, but may pick it up again.

I remember reading somewhere, that the artist was taking sort of a "leave of absence" or something. I think it said the end of August '08. I'll try to find the article again and post it if I can.

Ruth, I actually looked at your shop for the lizard pottery in May when we were done. I hope that you decide to add it back into the store. I don't need it for a while but I'll look next time we'e down and maybe you'll have it then.

Taylor,
We also bought some 10 years ago at Donald's.We only have 2 left (thank's to superglue). Our's were the flared style which were changed to straight side some years later. If you have the flared style,Give up,they don't exist.
I haven't seen the Kiln store open in quite sometime but she used to have alot of the straight side mugs.
I hate to hear they don't have them anymore as we were going to load up on the straight sides next trip.
P.S. if yours are the flared sides, name your price.

OK. In the spirit of forum cooperation, I will call the Kilnworks Studio on St Thomas (since I live here) and see if there are any mugs there. QuickPics moved from Havensight to the Kilnworks location so they may still be available at the studio. Seems like the artist said they would be when I was at her closing out sale.

I will post the results as soon as I get an answer, and if somebody wants some, respond by Sat, and I can get them on the weekend, and have them sent to St John the next Thur. I'll tell you where you can pick them up if they have any mugs.

Surely there are some around on St Thomas somewhere!

Thanks to all who responded. I do appreciate it.

Mike, mine were the straight sides...I don't think that I ever saw the flared ones. Sound nice though.

ms411, thank you so much for your assistance. I did not realize that the Kilnworks closed. Very sorry to hear that. I am definitely in line if you are able to locate some. We will be in St. John starting on Thanksgiving through the 6th of December. It's funny, I have not been to St. John in eight years and one of the things that I really had in my mind to do was to find those mugs since mine are no longer. When I drank from them it always took me back.

Best,
Taylor

Thanks, ms411, I would like 2 (any color) but I won't be on St. John until January 31st. Maybe, if you find them, just post the store info and I can call them myself and have them shipped. Thank you!

I called QuickPics in their new Kilnworks location. They have some lizard items - vases, candles, xomething, something, but she said the mugs were sold out.

But I don't give up that easily! I called another store that has a few pieces - the little snack plates and the lanterns (as she called them).

There are a few other places I can check, so stay tuned!
