Northwest Head's Up

Post by Rickst »

In June I made reservations for St John next April (for my daughter's wedding). My e-ticket showed me flying out of Mpls to Detroit then from Detroit to St Thomas. The return had me leave St Thomas to Detroit and then back home to Mpls.

Every month I check my reservation and when I did so today, it only showed two of the legs as "confirmed" (the Mpls to Detroit and Detroit to Mpls).

I called Northwest and asked what was going on...I was told that Northwest was not flying to St Thomas anymore!

My question, of course, was "And you were going to tell me this when?"

I was able to get it straightened out, but this would have been a real problem had I not found this out until I tried to check in the day before the flight.

So, anyone that is booked to St Thomas on Northwest should check their reservations to make sure they are still valid.

did this happen as a result of the merger? did you get rebooked on Delta?

I don't think this was due to the merger--the NW rep said she wasn't sure what had happened. But, yes, I did get booked onto a Delta flight out of Atlanta to St Thomas and the same on the way back.

The outbound leg from Mpls to Atlanta is still NW, though...

I never knew there was a direct flight from Detroit to STT. Is this something new? I've never come across one. We fly out of Detroit.

It was a seasonal flight only from like January - April, I think.

I used to live in Detroit. I never flew on it, but I saw it.

Guess I never saw it because we always travel in low/shoulder season. It sure would be nice though.

We fly from Minneapolis too. This past June I was looking to book my family for April. Northwest showed flights each time I checked and then all of a sudden they were gone. If I remember right, at the time April 11 was the last departure. We ended up booking DL and glad we did now with the merger. You just never know if they are going to start messing with NW schedules. Being switched to DL may be to your advantage. The first bag is free with them.

Actually, one of the merger articles I read said Delta was waiting for it to be finalized before they started to charge for bags. :(

There should be changes to flights and such as they make cuts. I'm not sure when it will start.

I just think it a bit odd that their system would let me book flights, confirm them and then make them "disappear" without informing me.

By the way, we fly out on April 18th, so the cutoff date--if there was one--must have been after the 18th.
