CRAP- flight opinions/help please

Post by Xislandgirl »

So we finally decided on a house for April and now the flights are a nightmare. It looks like the normal flight we take is not out there at all or just booked and the other options are over $800 and fly from Hartford to SJU to Miami to STT

Do airlines ever add flights? Is that wishful thinking? Do I need to change my week?

Any help or suggestions are appreciated

I was wondering the same thing. We got an AA BOS-STT direct flight in March for about $360 each.

XI- Another option is to book a good flight first, THEN do the villa booking. I think that is the best way to minimize costs because the airfares are so volatile...you can always get a decent villa once you get good plane tickets.

We got lucky when we booked our villa first...BUT we had to wait and wait for airfares to get reasonable...risky, and can be stressful.

just my two cents...good luck planning...

If you can go out of Boston or NYC, I'd probably opt to keep my week and monitor airfares closely. With fuel costs decreasing, we might see more travel "bargains" (relatively speaking) in the future. The previous poster is correct - always better to book air first and then find a place to stay, but you still might get a decent deal, just not an optimal travel schedule. Good luck.

Hi,

I see you're looking in April...
hopefully not during the April school
vacation? If so, I would seriously
consider changing weeks as the airlines
will be charging premium for sure and maybe
less of a chance of fares coming down any.

Otherwise I would just wait it out a bit.

Good luck!

We really don't have a choice on weeks this year since we have to open up the camp in Maine early, so we are limited by the time that Chip can take off.

Not really sure what we are going to do. He is going to have to talk to a few people about this and figure it out or we may not be taking a STJ vacation this year.

I'd wait it out a bit. As long as it's not
school vacation week. Which is after Good Friday,
correct? It's been too many years since I had
to know.

Don't give up...you'll both make it!!

what are your dates? --i agree that school vaca --easter week is going to be a killer--and if you could fly out of JFK or LGA you might have more options (you can park your car here--in our driveway--we're about 20 minutes from LGA and 35-40 from JFK)

Easter is the 12th and we were going to leave on the 18th, so I don't get it.

We'll see,I guess.

okay
the best i can see right now, is if you fly from JFK--i saw 499 RT--if you can adjust your travel dates (do a Thursday to Thursday) then you might find a better flight.

Boston area schools are out that following week - the 20th is Patriot's Day and is the Boston Marathon. Horrible week to travel if you want a good fare. Can you go the 4th or the 25th - much better options.

Yes, those are the April school vacation break dates for 2009. That is our challenge every year...this is esp horrid this year...being it's so close to the Easter week...they come one after another...Don't believe more flights will be put on...once inventory has sold out...that is usually it for those dates. I'd find the best of the options and make a decision. Good luck...

Honestly I'd wait it out until after Thanksgiving or Christmas. We have our trip scheduled for June and I've noticed new flights every day. When we were in St John last year we spent about $730.00 per ticket...my husband and I have come to the realization that this will be the case for our 2009 trip...its rare that you'll find flights for $350.00 anymore...
