STJ windsurfing?

Post by smilesfromMN »

Good Morning! Has anyone done any windsurfing in STJ? I see (from their websites) that both the Westin and Maho water sports centers have equipment for rent. Is this only for guest of these resorts (we will be in a villa)? Any other place to rent equipment? Is there a better beach/location for this activity? Any advice from anyone?
My husband spent quite a bit of time windsurfing on the lake this summer and would love to give it a try in the azur water of STJ when we are there in March.
Any advice is appreciated. Thanks! :D

Cinnamon is probably his best bet. If there is surf to ride he'll find it there and boards to rent.

Well, my son 21 year old son did the first time he was down in STJ back in 2000. Unfortunately, he had never windsurfed. So he got up and was doing fine right out of the Westin....but didn't know anything about "tacking" so, he headed out into the Ocean. (In fact, given the direction he was heading I think the next land he would have seen after he left was somewhere in Africa.) Got about two miles out when they (Westin) had to come rescue him......after a bit more training he managed to have fun closer to the shoreline.

Here is my advice for your husband......don't head East.....its a long way to land. Other than that.....as long as he stays near shore and out of the shipping lanes...he'll love it.
