That's a cute story...I've never been one to believe in these curses.

As a Red Sox fan, no team was supposedly "cursed" more than mine (thanks to the Babe). The only curse the Red Sox were under, was the curse of poor management.

The Red Sox were the last major league team to integrate, which is a disgrace. Tom Yawkey, for all the good he did for the likes of Ted Williams and Yaz, shouldn't get a pass for not signing Jackie Robinson (the sox had an opportunity to sign Jackie before the Dodgers).

The Red Sox also never placed a premium on pitching - that is until this new ownership group took over. Another thing they never understood was the importance of developing their own players.

It is no coincidence that now that they do all of the above, and do them well, they are perennial winners.

This game is about pitching, baby. Always has been, always will be.

Go Phils.

Yeah sherban - that was a David Ortiz jersey. That caused quite a stir in the Bronx.

They did some crazy things to try to exorcise the Curse of the Bambino up in Boston...A couple of years before they finally won the whole thing, some crazies actually pulled up Babe Ruth's old piano from the bottom of a lake in a Boston subberb. Seriously...Some people had found out that 75 years ago, the Babe threw this piano into the bottom of this lake...Edit: Don't remember if they found it or not...Maybe our friends from Boxborough will remember. Crazy.

Poor old Cubs - NOT!

You would think they would buy up some kind of goat farm, and turn it into a "goat spa" of sorts. You know just for the karma.

I think there is a lesson to be learned there; Don't ever say "no" to a goat!

According to legend... (and here from someone's blog mildly edited by me):

The Billy Goat curse was placed on the Cubs in 1945 when Billy Goat Tavern [of SNL 'cheezborger cheezborger' fame] owner William Sianis was denied entrance to game 4 of the World Series at Wrigley Field because he wanted to bring in his goat. The curse was immortalized in newspaper columns over the years, particularly by syndicated columnist Mike Royko, and gained widespread attention during the 2003 postseason when Fox played it up during the Cubs-Florida match-up in the National League Championship Series.
---

To break the curse, a goat was allowed into the park on opening day in 1984 and the Cubs won the division that year (but lost to the Padres before getting to the World Series.)

Earlier this month a priest blessed the field before a game. We all know how this season ended.
