Car barge

Post by loria »

After many years of renting cars on the island, we decided this year to get a car on STT and take the car barge--we have rented with Dependable as they appear to have a good reputation.
I didn't *think* we needed a reservation for the car barge--just show up well ahead of time, but having never done this i wanted to be sure--we'll be traveling in high season --do we need a reservation? If so, what company would you go with?
thanks.
< leaving on the 22nd of march...but too lame to figure out the ticker thing again!>

It's a pretty informal scene, show up and take the next car barge. Everyone pulls in with their backs towards the barge wharf so that they can be ready to back up on command. Don't forget to pay the port fee at the little shack on the way in.

Pretty much what Rick said...there is no such thing as a reservation. We take which ever barge is there first. You can get a roundtrip ticket and save some money, but then there's the possibility that the barge you want on the way back isn't the one you took to get there.

That little shack that Rick speaks of to pay your fee sometimes collects and sometimes doesn't. We have never actually paid to be honest and no one has ever stopped us at the shack. Not like we were trying to avoid it, just no one was there to collect....maybe we hit it at break time everytime :?:
