TYLER LINDSAY- BIO

Tyler Lindsay, 13, began playing trumpet and piano at age three and viola at age four. He began performing when he was 6 years old with his parents in at the International Baptist Church in Honolulu, HI. Tyler discovered his love for jazz when he was 7 and began studying jazz with Dave Adams when he joined the "Young Razzcals Jazz Project" at age 9 in November, 2004. He has won the award for outstanding trumpet performance in the high school division four years in a row, 2004 -2008, at the Tri-state Jazz Festival held at James Madison University.

Tyler was featured at the Richie Cole concert in Richmond Virginia. The Richmond Times Dispatch review of the Cole concert referred to Tyler as a "preteen dynamo". The Times went on to say Tyler "went blow for blow with Cole on Charlie Parker's "Donna Lee." The two musicians stood center stage and exchanged improvisational lines back and forth for about five minutes. The youngster showed no sign of tiring."

In January 2006 Tyler performed at the IAJE Jazz Masters Concert with John Faddis, Chick Corea, Jimmy Heath, Paquito D'Rivera, Slide Hampton, and James Moody. Tyler appeared at the Telluride Jazz Celebration August 3 - 6, 2006 in Telluride, Colorado. Tyler and his family were the subject of a TV special called "The Music in Me" which aired in October of 2006.

In addition to performing with the Young Razzcals Jazz Project, Tyler performs regularly with his brother Ryan (age 9), sister, Christina (age 6) and parents in their group "The Lindsay Family." www.lindsay-jazz.com
