We actually saw the sun for a brief time early this morning in Coral Bay. Now it's just a steely grey; very still, like the calm before the storm. If the forecasts are right, this thing should start moving towards us later today and everything will go downhill tomorrow into early Thursday. Latest forecast track shows the center going almost right over us at about 2AM Thursday morning as a strong tropical storm. We made a run to Cruz Bay yesterday for batteries, candles, a hurricane lantern, bottled water, bread, peanut butter, lots of cookies and a Key Lime Pie. Storm fuel... Plenty of rum already on hand. Today we'll get the hurricane shutters ready in case we need them and bring all the deck furniture inside. I ran into the owner of Crabby's last night at the Love City Mini-Mart and he told me that he was having a sale on kayak rentals tomorrow.. Wise guy... Our friends who live on boats in Coral Bay told us that they're going to ride it out there. This week has taken on an entirely new personality with the approaching storm. In a way, I'm glad we're going to be here to see how our place holds up in a big blow. On the other hand, I'd much rather be snorkeling...

Is this storm something out of the ordinary for this time of year? Is everyone worried (more so than usual) about it, or is Anthony just a good job of keeping us informed? In either case, I hope everyone is safe and it doesn't get too bad.

A tropical storm watch is up for PR and VI's. Projected track shows it headed right between PR and STT with tropical storm strength winds of 55knts/65mph overnight Wednesday into Thursday a.m.

Showing possible development into a Cat 1 hurricane by early Friday a.m. after passing the islands.

As forecast it is a tropical storm passing the VI - I lived through one while there, it wasn't a big deal - but you never know. I would be cautious, but not panicky.

Well, it's official. It's now Tropical Storm Omar according to the National Hurricane Center.

Ok, so now they have changed the path of the storm and it's headed right for the VI. Now, I'm getting worried. Several schools on STT are closed due to flooding and UVI is making an announcement at 2:15 about what our plan of action will be. I can't keep my eyes off the National Hurricane Center's web site!

Good luck with the excitement. It looks like an interesting couple of days.

Does CYOA have all of their boats out of the water for annual maintenance?

All the boats are in PR out of the water. They were supposed to leave tomorrow to bring the first group of boats back for the charters that start next week, but that trip was cancelled. A second trip was planned for Friday, so I guess they will have to just wait and see what happens and then go get the boats afterwards.

As much as I would love to visit the VI in October, its hurricane season and you run the risk of this type of weather. I think we'll stick with visiting in June and July...Hope everyone gets to their destinations safely....

We are on island staying at Lavender Hill...and the storm shutters are going up as we speak! Like Randy...we just returned from Dolphin...flashlight... batteries...chow...and rum...of course! Definitely starting to look like an interesting couple of days. We are used to sunny March...this is certainly a change of pace for us!!! Monsoon rain...earthquake and hurricane in the same week...we'll see! Still beats the best day at work!!! We'll try to keep you updated...

Piscesgirl, June and July are in Hurricane season, which runs June 1 through November 30 in the Atlantic.
