I have always been disappointedin the lack of local fruit on STJ. Unless your place has fruit trees, about the only local fruit I've ever found for sale are local mangos-excellent if available. Even key limes are seldom for sale-better find a tree.

Nature's Nook once in over twenty five years trying found a soursop for us. If you can, as STJJulie says, find a dragon fruit (I think it is probably a naseberry), try it immediately, amazingly, even obnoxiously sweet.

Josephine's is more likely to have local fruit, but my best luck has been to have the STT cabbie stop along Smith Bay Road at the two side by side fruit stands not too far from Red Hook. Much better and diverse produce than what you can find on STJ.

While you hear about star fruit, sugar apple, custard apple, sweet/sour sop, dragon fruit, and others, I have never seen them for sale. In this regard, STJ may be the worse island in the Caribbean.

Hmmm... maybe when I retire I could move to STJ and start a fruit farm! Sounds like there would be plenty of interest! :)
