Anyone familiar with the Villa Bougainvillea Loft Suite??

Post by JeanneB »

I can never seem to figure out how to make the search function work so I'll post a question instead. I'm looking for a reasonably priced place on St John for my husband, teen daughter and I to stay for three nights as part of our upcoming trip to the VI's and I was looking at the Loft Suite in Villa Bougainvillea (Donald Schnell's). Has anyone stayed there before?? I looked in the villa reviews and don't see any reviews listed for this particular villa. The only thing I've been able to find was on another forum and a poster mentioned the Garden suite needed a little TLC.

I inquired about a minimum stay requirement and it appears there isn't one (although maybe they just want to get it rented with the period we're traveling not being too far away).

We stayed at Villa Bougainvilla (+)

We rented both upstairs and down for a week in the summer of 2004. We loved the location as we were a large group with only 1 rental car and people could walk to town and back (uphill, but several of us were over 50 and didn't have a problem). No pool - but that was not a problem for us. The upstairs (loft) has two very nice bedrooms and a fantastic view! Mr. Schnell was very easy to rent from. As I recall the downstairs was a little shabby, but the upstairs was quite nice (certainly very nice for the price). We would stay there again.

My wife & I stayed there last fall.

One thing you should aware off is that the living room/kitchen area is open air. No windows. So it can get buggy.

You can only access the Loft Unit via a narrow spiral staircase, so carrying luggage can be a PITA.

Bedrooms were nice. A/C in each.

Thanks for your replies. As it turns out the Loft is already rented for the nights we're looking for, the Garden suite is available but I think I'm going to pass on that since it's been mentioned on here and elsewhere that it's not as nice as the Loft and is in need of some TLC.

At this point I'm leaning towards Serendip Condos or Hillcrest Guest House (unless I come across a last minute deal at the Westin or Gallows :D ).
