Caribean Travel and Live and KC
First I want to say the reason I've gone to STT and STJ is NOT to stalk Kenny.
Am I curious as to where he's lived? Where he hangs out? Sure, but that's about it.
Would I carry on if I ever came across him? No...I'm way too old for that.
For people who somehow blame him for bringing this on himself? Give me a break. He was on Island before he ever got this famous. So he sings some songs that bring attention to him. Hell, if I was a songwriter or singer, I'd sing about the things I know and love, including the Islands.
What is it with the forum this week? All I've read is opinions that are way out of hand.
I'm out. It's the weekend and I have some rum to drink and a CD to listen too.

"Paradise...it's a state of mine"
I'm here in Nashville, so maybe I have a different perspective on it than most folks. But I want to clarify why I think he brings the madness on himself. Maybe people won't agree with me, but I'm not just being a jerk when I say it. I have good reason.
KC is a bit of a mythical creature. He tries really, really hard to stay out of the spotlight in his everyday life. I have always suspected that he probably is a bit shy if he doesn't know you. I think he's said that in interviews.
Here in Nashville, I see famous people doing normal stuff ALL the time. Troy Gentry, Trace Adkins, Brad Paisley, Scott Hamilton and Keith Urban are just a few of the names I've met at Toys R Us buying diapers and toys for their kids. Only one time has anyone ever bothered any of them. I have met more celebrities than I can name here.
But KC rarely goes out. He doesn't go shopping; sometimes he goes out to eat but tends to make a big production to get his privacy. You very rarely see him anywhere in public.
That ups his currency, makes him elusive. If fans saw him all the time like Keith Urban, they wouldn't think twice of it. But because it's so hard to run into him, it's ALWAYS a big deal for fans when it happens. People freak out, and then it scares him because they're freaking out.
I know people who have gone on expeditions to STJ looking for KC. They know he'll be out in public there and he'll have his guard down -- or he did at the time, lots has changed in both my life and KC's.
If he just went out and acted normal instead of being an elusive hermit, his fans would probably react more positively and not act like they've hit the super lotto when they see him.
I do feel bad for him, but he's not entirely blameless. And, it comes with the territory. He could be selling used cars and not have two yachts and three houses on STJ because he doesn't make a giant pile of money each year.

Lulu is totally on target.
Kenny is shy and does not like crowds and but he does bring on alot of this madness.
I have heard from other people who live in Nashville they see Keith and Nicole out all the time and never care.
When I lived on St. John or was even on Jost and someone pointed Kenny out to me, my comment was always the same.......why can that boy NOT find shorts that fit him? Buffett is just as small in stature and his shorts fit.....
I know people on island are protective of Kenny but he has got to get over the fact that people come to island for him.......they come for St. John..
Heck Ivan and Foxy are just as famous as Kenny in alot of ways...........
Now even Seddy since he did 'feasting on the waves'

I love Kennys songs but could care less about seeing him. Now my wife thats another story she would probably faint if she seen him. I keep telling her we will run into him sometime. Barely missed him last time as Nascar and Becky had seen him the day before at Woodys last November and believe Rick G seen him at QuietMon around the same time. I probably would have to go up to him discreetly and ask if he would autogragh my wifes right boob or both. Maybe a K on one and a C on the other. Na bad idea they would never get washed again and that would not be good thing

Before he put out Be As You Are, he sang that song, "No Shirt No Shoes No Problem" that says, "Aint no better time than now..for mexico". That's a good song too, but it never made me want to go to Mexico.
The only thing I would love to see is for him buy up a bunch of land on STJ and donate it to the National Park.

*side note, I LOVE both Dave Matthews and Jimmy Buffett, but I wouldn't think going to the places they consider their paradises in hopes of seeing them.

KC on STJ

I love STJ because...well it's STJ...I know all of
you understand that!
I love Kenny's music ( not the man ) because...
it speaks to my heart and soul...a lot of you
understand that too!
If I saw him playing in the water at the beach there,
would I bother him...NO...he would be there for the
same reason we are there. Now if I came upon him on the beach " sitting in a blue rocking chair" playing
guitar and singing, would I sit down in the sand to
listen...YOU BET I WOULD !!!
What amazes me is that there are a lot more "famous"
guys like Alan Jackson, Jimmy Buffet, even Kid Rock
(sorry for outing you guys) that just pull their "little" boats in all the time and head up
the hill for burgers and beer...they have said it
themselves. Why does no one bother them?
Probably because they don't bring a posse, they just
blend in like reg. guys. Maybe if he toned it down
a little...he could enjoy it more like the rest
of us. I understand shy...but usually a shy person
doesn't like to call attention to themselves. I
really can't help but think he enjoys the attention
a little more than he is willing to admit.
Regardless...If he feels out of place there now and
can't find the peace and comfort like before...then
I really do feel sad for him. I can't imagine not
having that beautiful peace of heaven to be able to
go to with the man I love, sit hand and hand and watch
the beautiful sunset go down into the sea.
By the way we will be married 21 years on the
17th of this month.

Hey Sydney, don't you have a rule that one must listen to Kenny's music for at least 4 hours per day while taking up residency on your boat? Surely by the end of the week Jorge will be a fan. Oh, and if Kenny does end up on your boat serving drinks, I'll be waiting for your call.

STJ - I "get it"
I just think it's really funny that we're discussing how much Kenny loves STJ and how he can't just relax there any more because too many of his fans found out about it. But, really, didn't he have to agree to the CT&L article? Did he not pose for pictures? Does he think CT&L only has a subscribership of 10 people or what? Here's another reason he can't relax on STJ... he keeps putting it out there with his face plastered all over it.
Now that being said, I still like the guy, love his music, and yes, I'd probably go up to him and ask for his autograph or a picture with him, as that's just the way I am. I just don't care how special anyone thinks they are! You put yourself out there, now you have to own up to your fans.

And he doesn't have to do concerts, or videos, or even write songs, or have a website, etc., etc., etc.
Just like any other celebrity, he does these things.
Hey, I bet he even has a publicist!!
Is he shy or does he think he's special?? Who knows.
One thing I think we can all agree on...he loves the islands.

We've seen a few celebrities on vacation, but never anyone I'd be inclined to want to meet. In fact, the only one I'd probably want to talk to would be Jimmy Buffett. I actually introduced myself to Bankie Banx in Montauk, which was totally out of character, but he's extremely pleasant and approachable. My brother sees Billy Joel out on Long Island pretty frequently.
Anyway, I'm not sure I'd recognize KC unless he was wearing one off those big old hats!

Actually the mini interview he did was done by the editor Dave Herndon of CT&L. He ran into Kenny on Montego Bay, The pics are from Kenny's photographer Glen Rose.
I do not think it was a planned anything, more like Dave ran into him and chatted and asked 'can I put this in an upcoming issue?'
Dave talks about it in the first few pages of the issue where you get the editor saying whatever every month.......
I am not defending Kenny in any way but I just thought that was the way it read to me, reading Dave's words in the front of the mag.......
It is page 10 if anyone wants to read it

I wasn't going to reply either until I started reading the many interesting opinions. So here's some thoughts.
1.love his music because it reminds me of St.John
2.Don't love the attention he gave St. John because he took away in some ways what makes it special.
3. If I saw him, I would probably buy him a beer just like I would like to do for any of you if I got a chance to meet you but then I would leave him alone because we are all there for the same reasons.
4. You do call attention to yourself if you travel with a posse', I'm sure Jorge and Rick G can relate to this one.
and finally, I hope people don't go to St. John just to see KC or they don't "GET St. John"
