I have taken flights as early as 8:30am out of STT but (obviously as I live here) I don't have a car return on STT so a 10am flight is no problem (actually I am on the 10am on Thursday)

You will need to be at the airport no later than 8am for a 10am flight so the latest car ferry you could catch would be the 6:30am and pray it is running and there are no delays or trafic on STT.

If I was renting a car on STT I would spend my last night on STT for a 10am flight - for me, too much risk that everything will go smoooothly - island time remember

Pia makes a good point. I'd return a day later and return you car the day before you leave. If you stay at the Crystal Palace they'll pick you up from your rental car dropoff and take you to the airport. I really like the place and Ronnie is a great host. The first drink from the honor bar is free and Cuzzins is walking distance for dinner.

Getting up early is not the problem

It's making sure all car ferries are running thus allowing you to get on one, that they leave close to on time (usually at that time of day it can be 10 mins late leaving) no traffic etc, etc :) :) :)

That 6:30 car ferry can be tough. I would never risk it. If the 6:30 doesn't run (it it may not for a host of reasons) you are in big trouble.
