The only time we saw an Eagle Ray was when we were just getting to our dinghy at Crabby's. It came to the surface not 2 feet away from us, waved 'Hello' and disappeared just as fast. Motored all over Hurrican Hole and never saw another one...

I just googled this and it appears that the eagle ray does not rest on the bottom like the southern stingray. They're always on the move and that's why it's so hard to get close to them.

So everyone that managed to take a photo, has done a good job :D

we sail in the bvi quite a bit, and that's mostly where i've seen them. we did have a really cool experience this past july at leinster bay/waterlemon cay. it was about 9 at night and i was walking around the side of the boat and i saw something large and white in the water. i got out the flashlight and saw a huge eagle ray on the surface. he swam around our boat for a while. it was just beautiful. someone once told me that they are supposed to mean good luck :-)

as for manta rays. i've seen them once in all the years we've been in the bvi/usvi, and that was in the bvi near the baths (on the other side called fallen jerusalem).

Never seen one on St John but there were two that cruised the beach in Negril. Were there everyday that trip, was pretty cool. No underwater camera then or I would have gotten some pics for sure.
