Search Engine Help NEEDED

Post by SuefromMA »

Hi!

We are in withdrawal waiting for our April, 2009 trip to St. John. So......I am TOYING with the idea of running away to somewhere with warm waters leaving early AM Wed., Nov. 26th (or early evening Tues, Nov 25th) and returning Sunday, Nov. 30th.

We will be flying out of Logan Airport in Boston, Ma. We don't care where we go - as long as the destination has warm water.

My problem is that I go out on expedia vacations or vacation outlet, etc. and I have to keep "plugging in" different destinations. I am going crazy. Does anyone have any advice re: any kind of search engines that will allow me to maybe say "caribbean" as the destination & will find me the "best deals" for a particular departure date from Boston?

Again, I know that the odds of us finding anything "reasonable" at this late date, and with it being Thanksgiving and all, might be slim. But, we have the time off from work & are kind of thinking of it. Wouldn't even mind an "all-inclusive" somewhere - where we don't necessary have to worry about a car rental, etc. Just a mindless getaway.

Thanks, all!

Sue (& Jim)

Sue, I saw an offer for STT Marriott from Travelzoo for $499 per person. Don't recall the travel dates. I will try and find it.

ARRRRRRRRRRRGHHHHHHHHHHHH (runs away and hides with the cat under the sofa)

Don't go to the Marriott. Don't do it.
(my opinion) Stayed there for one night in August and we did't like it at all. We were also using Marriott points and it didn't cost us a dime. The thought of paying to stay there, to us, is an idea we'd rather not entertain.

If you want to get away and just need warm, maybe you could try a resort/all inclusive. We did a similar trip in March and landed in the DR (Puerto Plata) at a Riu resort. It was what it was and we had fun. I have a predictably long-winded writeup of the trip on my site.

Or...try these guys to find a trip: http://www.resortvacationstogo.com/

If you find something that looks nice...go shop the hell out of it to see if you can beat them.

I also recall from my days living in NJ that there were often good deals to Puerto Rico if you looked hard enough. I know you're in Boston, so it may not apply. I got this site from a friend a while back: http://www.puertoricosmallhotels.com/ In PR, a lot of small hotels/inns are somehow "governed" by the government (fancy that) and they have rate restrictions. As in they can't charge too much. Find one that looks good and then go see how it rates on tripadvisor.

I just noticed that your week was Thanksgiving (didn't read carefully).

Let me suggest drawing a warm bath if you want warm water. Thanksgiving is one of, if not the worst, weekend all year to fly. Having done pickups 3 years in a row down here in Raleigh...I can speak from experience. Even this dopey place blows up that weekend. I can't imagine what Logan would look like. I've been in it the day after the marathon and know how bad that is...thanksgiving?

I looked at Jet Blue to go anywhere from BOS. Ouch.
I even drove you to Manchester and tried to get you to Ft Lauderdale (bound to be warmer than Boston) on Southwest and even that's evil.

Good luck

I've never booked a trip from this site, but I look at it all the time! It is the previous "site59". At some point it changed to "lastminute".
http://us.lastminute.com/

They seem to have amazing prices on last minute travel plans, if you can find a destination they are offering that appeals to you.

Good Luck!

Cheap Caribbean will do what you want. Just put in "deals" and see what comes back. You pick your airport and they show you deals from that destination. I saw this morning a $399+ deal to Barbados for the fall. You may want to look into that - it was on Travelzoo.
