Suggestions?

Post by P-600 »

Hi,
First off I have to say that I am a lurker--BUT I once was frequently on here as Julie L. P-600 is my front license plate here in Mass (my USVI plate) (I still have the original green Mass plate from when they only made a back plate so I can have a STJ Friends of the Park Trunk Bay Pic) I'll Post! As you can imagine I get alot of LOOKS.
I have to confess that it is sooooooo hard for me to look at this site if I am not planning a trip. My husband and I first stayed at the Westin in Oct. of 99 for our anniversary. Our second trip was to Gallows Point right after Sept. 11 in 2001. Then we rented Cocolobo and took our 4 children in 2003 for our daughter's graduation present (yeah right)! And our last trip was to recruit newbies (they loved stj) in Jan. of 2006 when we stayed at villa Ambiance.
Now my hubby and I are on the prowl for a 1 bedroom villa with a KING size bed---very hard to find.I'd love a great view. We are thinking about Bougainvillea Loft--Donald Schnells place or Luna Vista-although they are not showing any view pics. Not too interested in the Coral Bay Side. Any suggestions?

It is sooo nice to be back!!!!

Gibney Beach House is sweet. If you can stand to stay feet from one of the best beaches. Several two BR's that would work too.

Don't rule out 2 bedrooms. You will just pay for the 2 of you and you may get more house for your buck.

When are you going and what is your budget? That will help us in looking for you. Anything else that you must have? Pool, AC, etc?

Happy Friday!
I agree with Xislandgirl, don't rule out a two bedroom. We've stayed at Grandview through Seaview Homes. Its a nice villa and the master has a king with a great bathroom. Seaview Homes has been GREAT to us. Mark and his staff are very accomodating. We will be renting our third villa from them for a 10 day trip in June.

Definitely include the larger homes in your search! The price goes by the number of people staying in the house. John and I have rented houses with as many as four bedrooms when it's just the two of us.

Tell us your budget and whether you are going on or off season and you'll get a bunch of suggestions.

Welcome back to the forum! :D

I'm with Liamsaunt and everone else. We often find that we can rent a bigger place with more amenities for nearly the same price as a smaller unit. Just depends on your needs, budget and desired location.

Our time frame is the first three weeks of January. We are trying to keep it on the inexpensive side.

That's on season...can you give a ball park budget? Anyway, here are a couple of homes that I know of that are not in Coral Bay, that have king beds and not-so-crazy on season rates. I'm not sure on availability though:

On the Luna Vista site there is a down-island shot from the front of the house. If that doesn't help you, I shot a few including some in my reports. The first report is at this link:

The entire package is on Fickr:

Hi,

We stayed at Bougainvillea - Loft in Nov, 2006.

The photo on the site in the upper left corner is the view from the living room "open" wall.

Here's another.

Image

We like it here; it is older, but well maintained. We had "happy hour" by the open wall everynight and watched the sunset. The location is very convenient to town - about a 6-7 minute walk; it is just up the hill from Gallows.

You can easily do without a car here; we only rented one for half our stay and took taxi's to Trunk, Hawksnest and Honeymoon.

There is no really nice outdoor space. One deck (with a grill) is small; and the other was surrounded with vegetation, so no breeze at all. But, we're not villa gravity people, so we had no problem with that.

The folks at Schnell were easy to work with and accommodating when we had requests. We also rented our vehicle from them - almost new at the time.

PM me if you have any questions.
