For what it's worth, I remember getting off a cruise ship on some other islands (Grenada, St. Lucia) and leaving resorts on a couple of other islands, and getting besieged by locals selling all kinds of stuff legal and illegal. I've also travelled in South and Central America so I'm used to it, but ...

I've been on vacations in Negril and Ocho Rios. I second some of the things already posted here: beautiful lush scenery, compared to the sometimes arid conditions in the Virgin Islands; nice beaches, but then of course the USVI has plenty there too. There is extreme poverty, and around some of the r...

As far as villa telescopes or binoculars are concerned, I'm glad it was a lot easier to see OUT from our villa than for others to see IN, since we were up high on a hill unless someone was peering down from a helicopter or satellite it would have been pretty difficult to see much! Of course if anyon...

Blue Moon
The 198-foot Blue Moon was anchored overnight in Magen's Bay during the week of 3/10-17 while we were staying there. We took some photos of her from our villa but these are better: http://www.luxist.com/2006/02/15/blue-moon-yacht/ Lots of water toys: two smaller (25-30 foot) boats, waverunners, ding...

For me it is Montego Bay by Freddie Notes and the Rudies. Yeah, it is a song about Jamaica, but every time I hear it I think of driving around the curve to the descent into Coral Bay. For some reason, that song was ALWAYS on the cd player when we got to that spot. It happened every time. I love tha...

Hertz rental
I rented from Hertz on STT last week, no problems except they did not have a Jeep as I requested when we arrived. We made out OK with a Camry but there are villa rentals on the island where you definitely need a 4WD.

Re: A few questions...
Where's the best place to buy rum to take home? Our return flight leaves at 1:00PM so I doubt we'd have time on STT to get to K-Mart. Should we just buy at the airport? The duty free shop at the airport is very convenient. Their price and selection may not be as good as other spots on the island. I...

running in Peterborg
Just returned from our trip and yes it is possible to run in STT if you're into doing hills. In fact it was great. I ran 5 times last week, starting from our villa in Peterborg and going downhill on Peterborg Road to Magen's Bay, running the length of the beach and then back up. The downhill & b...

try the St. Peters Greathouse instead
Mountain Top is a tourist trap but the St. Peters Greathouse is a nice scenic overlook. No bar but they do serve complimentary rum punch and there is a nice botanical garden. Great view of Magen's and Hull bays.

stuff to do
We just returned from STT & I hired a massage therapist to come to our villa to give my wife a facial and massage on the patio overlooking Magen's. She really enjoyed it. Your realty company may be able to supply a list of reputable therapists if you're interested or PM me.

Steel drum bands?
Best places on STT to hear live steel drum music? Suggestions?
