Re: time for lunch on way back?
Okay now which is it? "You could take the 11:15 ferry from Cruz Bay to Charlotte Amalie, which brings you to the dock a bit before noon, walk to the restaurant, and have time for a leisurely meal before taking a short cab ride (ten minutes) to the airport. If you were there on or before 2 PM on...

time for lunch on way back?
Our flight leaves at 3:15 on a Wednesday (Jan 30). Generally, I know a weekend flight home means get to STT 3 hours early. But since it is a Wednesday, was thinking 3 hours was too much? Was hoping to grab lunch at Amalia Café before heading to the airport.

Re: Rachael vs. "regular" cab:
Thanks Xislandgirl. I think you have it right. If we miss the 3pm ferry (and we will), we "have" to hang at the Fish Trap or the terminal and sip a beverage. Man that is rough! Beats working X1000.

Re: Rachael vs. "regular" cab:
Hmmm. Now that I check my flight, it arrives at 2:30. We won't have checked bags so no wait at airport. Still, even with Rachael and a direct ride to Red Hook would we make the 3pm ferry anyway? If not a regular cab would work. Alternative is to get to Red Hook that much faster via Rachael and have ...

Re: Rachael vs. "regular" cab:
So I did find her phone number and see it's best to call ahead with your flight number. How far ahead? A few days? A week?
Thanks for all the great perspectives/information. Fantastic board with some very helpful folks here. Thanks again.

Rachael vs. "regular" cab:
I'm a little fuzzy on using Rachael vs. any other cab. I DO know she is direct (STT to Red Hook no stops/drops/pickups) and so of course more money. You are paying for the convenience, but how much more? She is $50 from airport to Red Hook, right? How much is a cab that stops along the way? And what...

Re: waterproof pouch for snorkeling
"Used Aquapac on our trip a couple weeks ago. 2 iphones...Ruined. The first day, it worked great.. The second day...not so great...Don't recommend for anything of value. Keys, money, etc aren't such a big deal if wet." Oh...crap I JUST orded an Aquapac. I DO see they have a good warranty.....

Re: National Park Getaways
For the Reef Trail guided hike...just how far ahead of time can you make a reservation. Better question: how far ahead SHOULD you make a reservation?

Re: Anyone on island 1/22-1/29/13
Coming down same day and leaving the 30th. First time ON St. John but have been close - real close - when I did a couple of crewed sails in the BVI's a few years ago. Needed to burn some Delta Sky Miles and was shocked to see it was actually a GOOD deal flying into STT. This almost never seems to be...

Re: Best tip yet ...for newbies
I've done carry on for a week long sail (BVIs)...that wasn't hard since you are in the water all the time. This time it's a land based trip so not as sure if it will work.

Re: CA ferry vs. RH ferry?
Reliability? Is the downtown 5:30 ferry reliable? Hate to wait for it and see it cancelled...
Time on water IS >>>> time in a cab. But how does one spend the time waiting for that 5:30 ferry?

Re: CA ferry vs. RH ferry?
One of our trips down to the BVI's we overnighted at the Secret Harbour Resort close to Red Hook. I DO remember waiting for the ferry at Red Hook was fine...there were some good spots to hang. I did NOT know anything at all about the CA ferry terminal. Good to know.

CA ferry vs. RH ferry?
I've seen this discussed elsewhere, but I still don't understand why - in my case anyway - I wouldn't use the CA ferry vs. the RH ferry. Seems like EVERYONE says to cab over to Red Hook...why? My flight lands at STT at 3pm. Why not just relax a bit and take the CA ferry over to Cruz Bay? Yes, it lea...
