You can always check the travel calendar to see who will be around.

We will be. We arrive on the 21st. 48 more sleeps. We can't wait to be woken by the roosters in Coral Bay on the 22nd.

I don't know what got into me, I just got the itch to head down (and the airfare was reasonable when I booked it, but not now) and I was just there at the end of September with a few girlfriends This is the first time I am traveling solo (yikes!, no husband this time) but I just can't help myself  . So I hope to be able to connect with fellow forumites for happy hour or whatever. This will certainly be a new experience for me going on my own. Anyone else ever travel solo to STJ? Trying to figure out my cheapest mode of transportation, has anyone rented a car, and not a jeep on STJ and managed to get around ok? It sure is not cost effective to rent a jeep when you are not sharing the costs with someone. Thanks in advance for any replies. :D

Coming down same day and leaving the 30th. First time ON St. John but have been close - real close - when I did a couple of crewed sails in the BVI's a few years ago. Needed to burn some Delta Sky Miles and was shocked to see it was actually a GOOD deal flying into STT. This almost never seems to be the case when I have checked about using my miles with Delta. Anyway, my only experience with the USVI's was flying into STT, staying a couple of nights at Secret Harbor and ferrying over to Tortola for our charter. Secret Harbor was very nice but the rest of the island seemed very busy. Too busy. St. John was recommended and is a much better idea. To say we (buddy coming along who's never been south of...well no where close to St. Somewhere) are looking forward to it is a HUGE understatement.

Oops almost forgot...having just booked a jeep rental a few days ago, I found out if you don't start dialing some rental agencies NOW you might get shut out. First place I called was totally booked for that week. Second one had ONE left.

zhawkz, you will not be disappointed, I am not getting to see the rest of the world because I can't tear myself away from STJ, I keep getting sucked back every time!

I've been down by myself a few times. First time, I was REALLY nervous! Now, I almost prefer it (I hate to say that 'out loud' as it sounds so selfish somehow, but it's really really relaxing to be able to go where I want to go and do what I want to do whenever and wherever I want to! I don't ever get the luxury to do that in my 'real' life :-). Plus, I've found both tourists and locals to be very friendly. I really think I get to connect with more people by going by myself than when I go with others!

St. John Lover-I can say I'm a little nervous but excited at the same time, it's a great opportunity to meet new people that feel the same way you do about the island. And like you say, you are not on any schedule and can come and go as you like, needless to say I'm looking forward to it.
