Chapter 2 (Still Day 1): Salty Air Soothes the Soul

Brief Love Affair with STJ (April 28 - May 4, 2012)

Here are some of my initial thoughts about my new love affair with the magical place known as St. John. My husband and I just returned from our first (and certainly not our last) trip to paradise. I am already plotting our return. :D Before we had “officially” met in real life, I already had quite a...

Thanks for the input, everybody! I'm sure whatever decision we make will be the "right" one. Sounds like we really can't go wrong. KTinTX, the pics that you posted are beautiful! I can't wait to see that beautiful water in person. I now have questions about taxis and beach access (i.e. how...

Dinner Reservations

I've seen a few messages on here about dinner reservations -- mostly about making reservations at Zozo's well in advance. I am wondering if it is necessary to make dinner reservations at other restaurants (such as Rhumblines, The Lime Inn, Banana Deck, La Tapa, Waterfront Bistro, La Plancha. . .etc....

Inaugural Beach for a First-Timer?

STJ experts -- if this was your first visit on STJ and you were staying at Grande Bay, what would be your first go-to beach? We are only renting a car for a few days later on in our trip (I know, I know), so we'll either be hoofing it or taking a taxi on our first full day. (My initial thought is Sa...

Trunk Bay crowds

I am wondering how busy Trunk is when there are not any cruise ships in port on STT. Is it still best to go there early or late even when there will not be any cruise ship folks? And if so....how early are we talking.

Thanks,
Not much of a morning person.

+1 for the obsessed list. :)

You can add me to the "obsessed" list. (So far), I've purchased: 1) Keen Whisper sandals (the shame, the shame) 2) Aqua pouch thingie 3) FFFWD 4) baseball cap 5) "dressy" flipflops 6) Bug spray with Deet 7) A fancy "ziplock" thingie for underwater protection...for my ca...

Thanks so much for all of your suggestions.

I REALLY wish that our upcoming trip was for 6 weeks/months/years instead of 6 nights. So many beaches to explore, frosty beverages to try, and foods to eat. I guess that this dilemma will give us a good reason to come back for our next trip.

The Breakfast Club

Please recommend your favorite places in Cruz Bay for breakfast. (It seems that a lot of folks eat breakfast at their villas, but I'd like to have breakfast out at least a few times). I would love to hear your favorite breakfast joints.

Also...any great places for brunch on Sunday?

Many thanks.

Thanks so much for the input, everybody! (Although I have to admit, I'm still undecided). I think I'm going to wait until we are there to decide. Right now I'm leaning towards eliminating the BVI option and considering a 1/2 day trip or maybe a snorkel/sunset trip. I really do love being on t...

Analysis Paralysis -- Need Advice for Day Trip Decision

My husband and I will be making our first (and hopefully not the last) trip to paradise at the end of April. I am having a hard time deciding whether to "get on the boat" and which one we should get on. These are the things I'm pondering... a) whether we should do a day trip at all? (With ...
