Re: New 12.5% Hotel Tax on Existing Reservations

OK, I think this has gone way off base. In my original question I was just inquiring to see if folks that already had existing villa reservations were being assessed the "new" additional 2.5% tax increase. Previous discussions in this forum suggested that existing reservations may be "...

Re: New 12.5% Hotel Tax on Existing Reservations

Guessing your agent, I'm assuming that you were originally charged the 10% tax plus a 5% management fee totaling the 15%. If you are now being charged 17% they may have only increased your rate by 2% not the full 2.5%. The management company could have worked with the owner to absorb some of the imp...

Re: New 12.5% Hotel Tax on Existing Reservations

St John Julie,
Thanks for taking the time to help clarify the impact of the increase to the hotel occupancy tax. As I mentioned above, my villa company is passing along the charge to all previously booked guests in 2016. At the very least, this brought the issue to everyone's attention.

New 12.5% Hotel Tax on Existing Reservations

Although I finalized our villa reservation and sent in the deposit back in April we just received an email from our villa management company notifying us that we are being charged at the new hotel tax rate for our stay next spring. I had heard through the coconut telegraph that the tax would only be...

Re: Day boat trip

I highly recommend Captain Kevin of Copeland Boat Charters. We had a great day on the "Beer Cooler". We hit the Indians, the Caves, ate at Pirate's Bight and made it to the Soggy Dollar Bar for our last stop before returning to St. John. We never felt rushed at any point during the day. Ca...

Re: instructions on visiting Caneel

This was our experience when we parked at Caneel on July 13th. We pulled up to the gate and received the white parking voucher from the attendant and proceeded to the second parking lot as instructed. While at Honeymoon the gentleman at the "hut" said that all purchases were valid towards ...

Re: instructions on visiting Caneel

There is now a concession stand at Honeymoon Beach where you can rent beach chairs, floaties, kayaks, etc. and any rental charge goes towards the $20 parking fee (you must exceed $20). I also noticed the gentleman at the concession stand would take drink orders and call them in to Caneel where they ...

Re: Opinions on these villas...La Collina or Pink Conch?

We stayed at Pink Conch in April 2011. Awesome villa. There is plenty of cross ventillation throughout the villa and we never had an issue with the villa being hot once the sliders and windows were opened. A/C in the two bedrooms on the 2nd floor. The two bedrooms consist of a king (master) and a qu...

Re: Vie's Snack Shack

Thanks for the tips. We are arriving right after Carnival so hopefully Vie will be back to her "normal" schedule.

Vie's Snack Shack

Heading down in a couple of weeks.
Any recent visitors know what days Vie's is "scheduled" to be open/closed?
Also, what are her "hours"?
Thanks!

Re: One Night on STT

Thanks for the responses. I'll go with the Best Western since we'll be arriving at 3:15pm. That will leave us some daylight to hit the beach instead of heading out to Red Hook. Also, thanks for the heads up on the 10:00am out of CA. We'll make sure we get to Red Hook in time for the 10:00am ferry. J...

One Night on STT

We are staying on St. Thomas for our first night before heading over to St. John for a week. There will be four of us, 2 adults and two teen girls. We have it narrowed down to staying at either the Best Western Emerald Beach or Crystal Cove at Sapphire Beach. Pros or Cons for each? Any input on eith...

Holy Crap!!!! I held out and waited for Jet Blue to come out with their fares. In the meantime I missed out on some really good prices from other airlines. Jet Blue never seems to have good prices when I can travel (have kids). I've learned my lesson. Jump on the good airfares when you see 'em. I fe...

Hi Xislandgirl,
Dumb questions but I was told to ask. In the pictures on Blue Tang's website (Catered To) it appears that there are no curtains or TVs in the bedrooms. Is this accurate?

Thanks for the responses.
Looking back I realize the list is quite long. Sorry.
I think we can narrow it down to Villa Del Sol, Eaglesnest, Hibiscus Gardens and Blue Tang.
Any pro or cons?
