We've used LowKey (+)

We've used Low Key a couple of times and found them to be a very good operation. STJ diving is beautiful. Have a good trip.

Depends on what you want to do (+)

We have been to Bequia, St. John, Bahamas, etc. It depends on what you want to do, but Bequia is WAY TOO QUIET for a large group. There is no shopping (and I'm not a shopper). This is a great sailing venue and the sail boats are wonderful. There are also some good restaurants. The scuba diving is go...

Thanks for the report

I'm really enjoying your trip report. We, too, love STX and I can visualize each turn in the road.

The WORST part is (+)

The WORST part is the LONG lines for getting baggage tags and paying for bags. In large airports, this will add at least 45 minutes to an hour to your check-in time. It negates the value of the check-in kiosks. We traveled from Phoenix recently with carry-on only. After we got our boarding passes at...

We stayed at Villa Bougainvilla (+)

We rented both upstairs and down for a week in the summer of 2004. We loved the location as we were a large group with only 1 rental car and people could walk to town and back (uphill, but several of us were over 50 and didn't have a problem). No pool - but that was not a problem for us. The upstair...

Go for it and learn to scuba dive (+)

We have been visiting the USVI (STJ and STX) for MANY years and have talked with numerous young (and not so young) people that have made the move; some successfully and some not. Most are working 2 jobs to be able to afford living there. The most successful ones (happiest with lifestyle) are the one...

from Dominica - an island that has VERY steep hills (+)

Many years ago we were on a tour bus on Dominica; the hills are very steep (many are "worse" than STJ) and one of the passengers asked what people do when it snows.

Island Hopping

I doubt if you will find a ferry between SXM and STT. I did a google search and found some ferry runs listed between SXM and Anguilla, St. Barts and Saba. We have island hopped on LIAT (aka Leave Island Any Time) and Cape Air. Both do a good job - as long as you realize that you are on island time. ...

Exit Row Seating with Child

PA Girl wrote:Another 3-pack family chiming in, with an exit row question - is there an age restriction in the exit row seating?
From American Airlines Website (other airlines have the same restriction)

Exit Seats
Children (or adults with children) under the age of 15 may not be seated in an exit seat.

Cruz Bay without car

We've stayed in Cruz Bay for a week without a car. It was okay for us since we are scuba divers and spent most of everyday diving with LowKey (within walking distance) and we walk a lot (several miles a day at home). There are plenty of good restaurants in Cruz Bay and we could walk to Starfish. HOW...

Question about Delta service to STX

We booked non-stop Atlanta to STX on Delta (for 12-22 to 1-5) last June. Recently we were told (by someone else traveling to STX, not by Delta) that Delta was cancelling all flights to STX after December 15. Sure enough, we called and they have cancelled all flights to STX - I think they plan to sta...

You'll enjoy a few days on St. Croix (+)

If the fast ferry is running (depends on the time of year), it's not a bad trip. I've never done the sea plane, but it looks like it would be awesome. Another option is Cape Air. They have regularly scheduled flights from St. Thomas to St. Croix. The drinking pigs are huge (really kinda scary they'r...

Bequia (posted here because it comes up as an alternative +

to St. John). Bequia was charming and more rustic than Barbados, St. Croix, St. John, and Grand Cayman. It reminded me somewhat of Dominica (we stayed at Castle Comfort near Roseau), but seemed friendlier to tourists. Some people have said that Bequia is like St. John thirty years ago. So in compari...

Try Villa Bougainvillea - www.donaldschnell.com (+)

We stayed there a couple of years ago and found it to be very convenient and less expensive than other options in the area. It's just up the hill from Gallows and Lavendar Hill. This villa doesn't have a pool. It has two bedrooms, one bath, and large porch and living room and smallish kitchen downst...

Donald Schnell

We rented from Donald Schnell (vehicle and villa) a couple of years ago. Working with him was great. He has several villas - we were in Bougainvilla just up the hill from Cruz Bay. We talked to other renters at the ferry dock - we all agreed that he was a great person to work with - laid back, but r...
