St. John Taxis
While on St. John - in just 7 days
- we're staying in a villa on Chocolate Hole. How easy or hard will it be to get taxis? My parents will be with us and don't really want to rent a separate car but would like the freedom to go other places. Are there taxis we can call or will it be best to get them to Cruz Bay and get one from there?
Thanks for any and all advice!

Most taxi's will not pick up/drop off at villas especially if the road is "bad"
Good luck in finding one that will and if you do, make sure you have great "island style" directions (you know - go to Pete's house turn left then at the second goat trail turn right and end just before the big tree
) - it would really be best to rent a car

I do have to agree with Pia.
If you really need to do the taxi thing, I would suggest that after you get to the house and know where you are staying and how to get there, head down to the taxi stand and talk to a few drivers to see if they will drive out there and if you can get a card to call them when you need them. They may not be able to come when you want, especially is there is a cruise ship in STT and they are busy on beach runs.
Remember that many taxi drivers don't like going to Coral Bay.
If the road is paved you should be ok, you will just have to be flexible.

It would probably be a bit of a challenge to get back from the Westin. It's not far, but it is steep.
When we stayed on Great Cruz Bay road last year, which is sort of the same general vicinity to where you will be, Paradise Taxi said that they would come and get us. We just called, gave them our "island style" directions and asked. (We were just going to Woody's, but it was one of our designated driver's birthday so we figured it was best not to drive.) The worst they can do is say no, right?
