For those who love nature, photography, and the environment

Post by AnyTing »

I just wanted to share what I think is a very cool project a friend of mine is working on. I think it's very interesting and thought some of you might enjoy following it as well. There are some beautiful images coming out of his work.

Here's a description: "Using photography as a medium of preservation, Holt Webb is traveling across America on veggie oil, with an artist`s eye and camera in hand, capturing those unique aspects of our country and culture that are in danger of disappearing within the next few generations."

A few years ago students from my husband's alma mater started doing summer tours across the country in a veggie oil run bus:

I like the photography part of what your friend is doing. I love photographing nature.

That's great - thanks for sharing Vicki!

And at the risk of hijacking the thread (but it does have some relevance, just bear with me...) did anyone see the news story last night about the lady that was looking through all of her photo albums, of all of the shots of her family and realized that there were a lot of folks out there that were unable to do the same because cameras/prints, etc. are luxuries they can't afford?

She has started a project where she takes pictures of families, kids, etc. in all kinds of settings, then gives them the photos. There were some inner city residents and homeless people that just BEAMED when presented a framed family portrait!

Another great idea!

I did see that on the news last night and thought it was a clever idea and so important. Pictures like those she took were such a gift to the homeless.

Very cool.

On a common theme, my cousin Stephen Malkoff is an artist who focuses on painting notable trees. His work has amazing detail and really captures the essence of these great trees.

Glad you liked it, Rosi. He's a very talented artist and he's doing this project on his own, trying to raise sponsors and get it off the ground. It's proving to be a struggle and I really hope he makes it. I think it's good work.

Some of these others are really cool too. Thanks for posting them, guys!
