Need help with gift idea for friend having hip surgery

Okay...usually I am pretty good with gifts, but I am stuck.

On of my colleagues/friends is having hip surgery this week and I would like to send her something to let her know I am thinking of her. I am at a loss...

She already said she doesn't want flowers. She doesn't drink. She is worried about her weight post surgery, so I don't want to do food.

While we are close, because we have always lived across the country from her, I know very little about what she does in her spare time besides spending time with her children and grand children.

She is in her mid-50s. Any ideas? I trust you guys!

maybe she will be reading during recovery so a barnes and noble gift card? that covers books, magazines, music, movies.

Books or a gift certificate from a book store would be my first suggestion. I assume she'll be less mobile during her recovery and this would give her something to do other than watch tv. A selection of teas, coffees, and/or hot chocolates sounds good too.

How 'bout a book for her to read
as she'll have some down time.
Regarding something that she is passionate
about and that can take her "away"
for a bit while recovering.

A book(s) or DVD is a good idea.
I got a fruit bouquet after my surgery. It isn't flowers and it is healthy. My family ate most of it anyway. It was pretty too.

Ksea sent me a bunch of DVD's and that was great! It killed time and made me forget about any pain!

Great ideas! Makes me feel a bit silly for not coming up with these on my own. Books...perfect! I do know she is an avid reader (she recommended the last book I read on St. John!) and fruit basket...perfect, too. Thanks again!

I thought that might be what you were talking about! I've had them several times (at functions & parties & such) and they're very fresh and tasty! I usually make a pig out of myself when it comes to those! LOL!

Mmm, flowers made of fruit, yummy!

The housecleaner would be nice, as well
as gift cards to local restaurants
that deliver...just a thought.

Hope her surgery goes well. That one
requires total commitment to her rehab
therapy.
