Check this guy out. I found him [?] in my woodpile the other day.

Anybody know what kind of caterpillar it is?

He's certainly colorful! Wonder what he is?

This site has a picture of what the final product looks like:

Thanks, Cass, that seems to be the same thing. This one has cocooned now. Those were great pages, especially the 2nd one. How'ed you find that so quickly?

One more shot of it from a front view. You can see the 1st threads of his cocoon:

That caterpiller is TOTALLY cool! (I love bugs!) I suspected it was some sort of silkworm by the threads around it - or a spiderweb! Keep an eye on this guy JT, I'd love to see it's metamorphosis!

I'm just nerdy that way! I think maybe I was a detective in a previous life, I like "figuring things out". I just typed "identify caterpillar" into the search.

That's a really cool looking critter!

JT -

Great looking caterpillar, I've never seen one so vibrant before - and Cass - what neat information, thanks for sharing. I, too, would love to see it as a moth.

That's awesome. I cant wait for the mini to get home from school to show her that picture. She loves bugs. She endlessly is hunting for them!
