Great Caribbean restaurant in Maryland

Post by AquaGirl »

We love West Indian food as it reminds us of the Caribbean and eating at Sogos in STJ. There are only a few places we've found in our area that serve authentic West Indian food. We came across one in Gaithersburg, MD that is wonderful. Very small, casual place. We had wonderful beef patties (spicy), warm coco bread and homemade sorrel drink for appetizer. There were 4 of us and we had curry chicken (the yellow Caribbean type of curry), curried goat (my hubby loves goat), fricasse chicken (tastes better than it sounds), and ropa vieja (shredded pot roast in an interesting sauce). We got huge portions, with rice and peas, and salad, so we got to take home leftovers. We also shared a side dish of plantains. Everything was delicious. The owner (from Dominican Republic) was very friendly and we had a nice chat with him.

Its not too far from 270, taking the Montgomery Village Ave exit. Its hard to spot from the road. Its in a shopping center with a Bruster's Ice Cream shop (which you can see from the road and has excellent ice cream). Try it if you're in the area!

We have a fun Caribbean restaurant here in Madison, Wisconsin. It's called "Jolly Bob's Jerk Joint." It's on Williamson Street (Willy Street), just a few minutes from downtown.

Good jerk pork and chicken and killer rum drinks. There is a nice outdoor patio, too.
Wisconsin, smell the dairy air
