Techie Help - related to STJ
I have DSL service at home, line is owned by Verizon, internet service provider is Earthlink. We have a lot of problems with DSL not being available. But I noticed one thing that is a big problem for me. Almost every time (but not always) I go to the on-stjohn site and start to play one of their videos, the DSL connectivity goes down. It always goes down when I use Mozilla browser, and sometimes with IE.
This causes further STJ withdrawal symptoms since I really want to watch their videos. We have spent a lot of "quality time" on the phone with Earthlink's help desk, but no improvement.
Any ideas?
(Yes, we are considering FIOS - neighborhood got it recently)

I use Mozilla and have DSL and go to that site with no problem. Is it possible you have an anti-virus program running every time you open the videos? Check your task manager to see what runs when you open the videos to give you a clue. You might have a pop up blocker set possibly or you might not have your Active X control set. Some videos require that in order to run. Or in other words, it could be a million different things. Good luck!

I agree it could be a million different things. Can Earthlink bump you up a bit? Sometimes that helps - we were at 54 and couldn't qualify for high speed DSL as we are too far from the base but AT&T was able to give us a bit of a boost to about double. I was also having problems with viewing videos right before my DSl modem went toes up (it was the original). Got a new modem and replaced the cable between the modem and the wireless router with a better, shorter cable while I was at it and things got a lot better. Good luck - I know this is frustrating because it could be one thing or many things and figuring out the combination that is causing the problem can be maddening.
