Coral Bay restaurants, vie's, dinghys and waterlemon

Post by vacationpants »

This June will be our 3rd trip :D Family of 4 (2 older teenagers). We have been to skinney legs in coral bay area but want to try another restaurant this time what would you recommend? Where is Vie's - have never found it on previous trips. On our to do list 'rent a dinghy' I know of Noah's little ark but now I am hearing of Calypso - where is that located? And we plan to do a full day everyone has said that a half day is not enough. Also on our to do list is visit waterlemon - where do we park and hike from? It's amazing there are so many things to do on this small island - we still haven't made it to the salt pond area - we may just have to come back again to visit that area!! Thanks for all of your help.

Hi there! I loved the Coral Bay area. I would recommend the Donkey Diner for pizza. Good stuff. I think they only have it Wednesday - Saturday, but I'm not positive. Might want to check. Shipwreck's had a good lunch with a nice view. Skinny's was still our favorite, though. Love those burgers!

I think that if you just keep on driving past Skinny's and Donkey Diner you eventually get to Vie's beach. There's a tree in the middle of the road right before it, and Vie's Snack Shop is on the left (with a little parking lot there).

Have a wonderful time!

We always go during June or July and LOVE doing lunch at Island Blues and sitting right on the water. We used to go to Skinny's but always opt for Island Blues since we discovered it.

It's very slow paced, but we like that. We like to sit at the plastic tables right by the water and catch the breezes coming in. The food is excellent and the atmoshpere is the laid back, no rush atmosphere that we like...plus they play really good music!

We also like Shipwreck for dinner. Same thing, real laid back.

In June, Skinny's can get hot because it's so closed in so you don't get the breezes, plus it's a bit too fast paced for us

We ate at Aqua Bistro our last night there and decided it was more lunch food, but it had awesome breezes as well. I don't think we would opt for there over Island Blues though.

We usually stay close to Cruz Bay but end up eating alot of our meals in Coral Bay because we like the more laid back mood and don't like to feel rushed while we eat.

Still need to try Vie's and Miss Lucy's though.

Our dinner at Shipwreck Landing was one of the best meals we had on STJ. And very casual dress. I got to share my Mahi with the resident kitty, Buster :D

Miss Lucy's for brunch was also a great meal. Live Jazz while you eat by the water. But keep an eye on your food, there's goats! :D

I love St. John!

Hi there. I'd suggest Aqua Bistro, we really dug it there. Small outdoor patio type of thing, the weather would have to be good.

 That's so cool C-Girl! So her name is Buster eh?, she was lingering around and so friendly! Ya learn so many little details on the forum. :)

There was a dog there too, have any idea about the Shipwrek landing dog? He went around to all the tables too, but I'm guessing she was a locals dog.

And on the Shipwreck landing note, this guy came out as the sun went down, way out in the street, and had a fireworks gig set up on a rope which he spun around for a minute or two. It eventually came off and landing on Shipwreck landings tin roof!

We had an excellent lunch and dinner at Miss Lucy's. I especially liked having lunch there because during the day you can appreciate the water view. (Great roti!)

We also had an excellent dinner at Shipwreck Landing. We had dinner at Aqua Bistro one night, and my meal was just OK but everyone else liked theirs. Good burgers at Skinny Leg's, although for one of our meals they lived up to their "same day service" motto. (To be fair, this was during the Rose Bowl, so it was crowded.)

To get to Vie's, follow the East End Road (10) past Hurricane Hole and around to Hansen Bay. She has a small parking lot and there are a few spots where people park at the side of the road. Hansen Beach is worth the trip!

For Waterlemon, it is easiest to park in the Anneberg lot. The trailhead is in front of you after you cross the road. The trail is flat and should take about 15 minutes.

For Coral Bay lunches, I highly recommend Island Blues and Miss Lucy's. If you get to Vies make sure to get her garlic chicken if she has any. It is delicious.

I never, ever thought I'd hear Skinny Legs and "too fast-paced" used in the same sentence.

Being brand new to this forum today, I hate to be the bearer of bad news but the cute dog was names Taco. She
was a neighbor's dog but preferred to hang out with people all day and was a regular visitor. Sadly, one day she heard some children playing on the beach and in her
excitement to join them, was hit by a car. She is missed by us all.
