Very cool music website on Vieques

Post by California Girl »

This is super neat. Read the entire post before you click on the link and have fun! :D

This a Jukebox, but it is no ordinary jukebox. It will play all of your favorite songs from 1952 through 1982. Each year has a scroll or drop down box that shows all the great songs for that year. Most years have over 40 songs. There is even a section at the bottom that allows you to listen to show tunes, TV show themes, Doo Wop and several others. This is pretty neat....and it is free. Read the rest of this and then click on the site at the bottom.
Once you click on a song it will play and when it finishes it automatically plays the next song in the list and continues until it has played all the songs. This is really cool!!!

It has a volume control which you should use in conjunction with your computers volume control.

One of the best features is that it will play in the background. That means you can be doing other computer work on a different screen.

Pick and play any popular song from 1952 through 1982 or go to the specialty areas. You can't miss them. They are listed in very bright colors.

About the website:
Playa Cofi is a beautiful beach and tropical glen on the small Caribbean Island of Vieques. We are located between the US Virgin Islands and the "Big Island" of Puerto Rico.

The music collection was started as a hobby to fill some of our quiet retirement hours. The selections were pulled together from a variety of sources over a number of years. Then they were arranged to provide the most listening pleasure for a few of us in a given age group.

Along the way we learned how to compress the music files and how to place them in playlists on an open website to share our musical heritage more widely.

We have been scrambling to keep up with demand ever since.

We have obtained the required internet licenses for all of the music. For the song writers and composers through Broadcast Music Inc. (BMI); and for the performing artists - we use the provisions of the statutory licence with royalty payments through SoundExchange, Inc. We report on the number of plays of the songs each quarter to each organization and pay fees to each - based on those plays - which BMI and SoundExchange then distribute to the interested parties.

We try to keep the music fresh by adding a new features and new genre when we can.

We use commercial web hosting because computer equipment does not last long in our tropical environment, and because here we lack access to the truly high speed internet connection needed for the streaming audio files we use.

Contributions from users help us pay for the music licensing and for the web hosting required. We also get some funding from Google Advertisements.

So enjoy the music - contribute if you can - and remember that it pleases us to know that our small efforts are pleasing you.

The Rules: of Playa Cofi

In exchange for a Statutory License that allows us to play a wide variety of music by many, many artists, we must abide by the following rules that affect the way our site works:

Long Play Programming -

We must broadcast long-play programs of 3 to 5 hour duration.

Non-Interactive Operation -

We cannot (except for testing and special promotions):

...Allow users to choose individual songs

...Provide skip ahead or back buttons

...Provide user specified playlists

...Provide Featured Artist playlists

No Prior Notice -

We cannot let users know what song(s) will play next or in the near future.

.

Think of our site as a bunch of radio stations.

If you don't like what you are listening to, you can switch channels anytime you like - and know what type of music you will receive.

But you cannot choose - or even know - what songs will play at any particular time.
